Trappist Beer Night!
Westmalle is one of my favorite representations of the Tripel style. Pours a beautiful amber-orange-gold, with a clean look and a frothy head. The nose is outrageous: spicy and sweet fruit with plenty of that classic Belgian ester. Maintains crispiness and is relatively dry, but still exhibits plenty of stick-around-for-a-while qualities with a bigger and juicier mouthfeel than a typical Tripel.
If Westie 12 is the trappist you want to sip while hearing monks relate Cistercian tales of yesteryear on a cold winter night, Westmalle Tripel is the one you want to share with the friars after a day working in the fields of grain. Truth.
