got this in the mail a few weeks ago as a birthday present to myself, and i've been waiting so patiently for tonight. i'm still quite new to the world of belgian beer, but i know enough to be really excited about trying one of the top tripels for the first time.
poured into a chalice, an amazing cloudy dark gold with a head that is huge and thick. this foam dies down after a few minutes but never goes away, adding to the appeal of this fine brew. smells delightful. thoughts of lots of fruit and spicy gum. definitely malty, but i do not smell 9.5% abv.
nor do i taste it. there is an alcohol presence that is very obvious, but it works with the flavor - enhancing it rather than dominating it. i look at the abv as a warning. sip this 750ml bottle slowly man, i can almost hear this beer advising me. wow. i am not disappointed, this one kicks ass.
