11.2 fl oz brown glass bottle served in a snifter, reviewed live:

A - Pours a murky honey golden color with visible yeast, with a soapy, 4 finger, white head. Retention is amazing, especially consider the high ABV. Very appealing.

S - Light spice, fruity esters, biscuity yeast, orange peel, coriander, pilsner malt, and light floral notes. Well balanced, inviting, though a bit reserved.

T - The delicious yeast is the most prominent note on the tongue, as it should be. The spice and fruit esters are very reserved, which is a bit unfortunate in my book. Hops come into play only where the need to, as it's a bit sweet. Alcohol does come through on the finish. While it could be hidden better, it's not obtrusive. Very well balanced.

M - Light bodied, crisp, and dry on the finish. Ideal, considering the style.

D - As the originator of the style, this is a very good beer, though I think I've had better tripels. I'd certainly give it try.

Westmalle Tripel is tied for my all time favorite tripel and one of my favorite beers. This is such a delicious beer. I have enjoyed dozens of bottles, been to the Westmalle cafe quite a few times and had the Tripel (and Dubbel) on tap. See review of the Westmalle cafe (aka Cafe Trappisten).

The Westmalle glass is my favorite drinking glass and having a Westmalle tripel in it is great!

I am not going to give some type of sophisticated tasting description of this beer. Bottom line, this is one of the best beers out there. Tastes great, smooth liquid sweet honey.

Appearance: The beer pours a beautiful golden straw body with a big foamy head.

Smell: Sweet malts, clove, and a hint of coriander are noticed early. A banana aroma becomes stronger as the beer warms. Maybe I have an old bottle but the aromas all seem a little too subtle.

Taste: Follows the nose. It starts with flavors of Belgian hops, clove and notes of sugar. There is grape flavor and some dry hop bitterness on the finish. A very complex beer but none of the flavors are really "deep." The alcohol is well hidden.

Mouth feel: It is medium bodied with a lot of carbonation. There is a buttery feel that becomes noticeable as the beer warms; quite refreshing.

Overall: I don't know if it is as good as the "bros" say but it is still an impressive Tripel.

Pours a beautiful light golden hazy color with a super head of white. The smell is bread and lemony goodness. Lots of floral, fruit and yeast on the taste with some dry hoppiness on the finish. Great carbonation and dryness leaves a very clean feeling on the tongue. I can see why this is the Tripel standard. Excellent brew.
