poured into chalice/trappist goblet
A- brownish molasses, chocolate dissolved evenly in water, with clarity/reddish on the edges, hard to see thru/nearly opaque. head is thick, foamy tan, amazing retention throughout drinking, never dissipates below 1 mm, and completely even. Big splotch/blanket lacing in one spot only, doesn't have much other lacing. Still, very pleasant to look at.
S- roasted malty, lightly spicy, scorched sugars
T- Scorched candy sugar, little phenolic/medicinal/herbal, lightly sweet that touches on dried dates but has a drier palate than expected. Has a warming feel to the alcohol.
M- SOFT, and SUPER creamy, satiny smooth. Really a pleasure to drink.
Overall, this was a really enjoyable beer, and something I'd drink again. I could have used a little more kick in the taste, but I also enjoyed the slightly muted flavors where nothing was overpowering. Again, appearance and particularly mouthfeel really were nice.
