11.2 oz Westmalle Trappist brown bottle. Poured into a Belgian style chalice, almost identical to the Westmalle chalice.
A - A hazy, unique looking dark brown. A color I cant ever remember seeing in any other brew I've had. Nice, creamy off white to light tan head. Nice lace.
S - Dark fruits. Spicey almost with a peppery smell. Some caramel notes give it a somewhat sweet smell.
T - Lots of dark fruit. Very nice spices along with more dark fruit(s). Maybe some raison in here? Noticable Belgian yeast with a sweet malt flavor.
M- Medium bodied. Just what I would expect from a Trappist dubbel. Medium to good carbonation.
O - A very well crafted trappist dubbel. However I still prefer the Chimay Premiere Red over this. But this still is a class brew. Outside the Rochefort brews, both this and the Chimay are 2 of the best dubbels available and are fairly easy to find in the small populated area I live in. Remember, you can't go wrong with Belgian Trappists. They are brewed with quality in mind, and this one is no different. It goes right in line as another world class trappist.
