Served in 12oz tulip.
Appearance is an effervescent hazy ruby colour. Head is tan and plentiful. Lacing is apparent.
Smells of munich malt, raisins, and spicy yeast/hops. To be honest, it is not generating a whole lot of anticipation.
Taste is full and complex. Amazing malt sweetness and dark fruitiness up front, which turns to a dry spicy finish with a bit of hop flavour. Almost perfect.
Carbonation is lively in the mouth (though creamy), making it very refreshing and dangerously drinkable.
I could easily down several of these before noticing how much alcohol is in there.
I find this beer to be very smooth and not overly spicy - which I think suits a darker belgian beer... it allows you to appreciate the malt. The only knock is I that I find the aroma lacking. Spectacular, and very well crafted... as a homebrewer, I would love to brew something this good.
