Poured from a 12oz bottle into a Delirium Tremens snifter. Freshness date of 27/7/12 - meaning this was presumably bottled 27/7/07.
A - pours a translucent toasted brown color. Yields 2 fingers of creamy tan head. Body is a cloudy opaque dark brown (I always pour a little yeast into the glass for the full effect). Retention is decent, but the head fades to a 1/4" film within a few minutes. No lacing.
S - lots of dark, aromatic cocoa, sweet raisins and prunes, some booze, and candy-like sweetness. Some floral hops in the background.
T - flavors of milk chocolate, black tea and mild coffee. Hop and alcohol bitterness in the middle. More booze and raisiny sweetness toward the finish. Some bready toasted grains make for a dry finish. Flavors are generally what I would expect for a dubbel, but they are a little to sharp and unbalanced.
M - mouthfeel is ok, but it's a little too watery an a little over-carbonated.
