bottle poured into a tulip glass. best before of 7.27.12
deep brown color, monstrous 2" head even with a painfully slow pour. sweet nose - dark fruit, candied sugar; all pretty subtle, but a wonderful blend.
complex malts on the tongue, plenty of raisin, fig, brown sugar and pleasing warm alcohol. only ding is a bit of bite on the back end. not sure it was even taste so much as being what i consider slightly-overcarbed. regardless, a spectacular beer, always enjoy revisiting this one.

Enjoyed in a chalice

A: pours a clear light brown with a slight amner hue and a few carbonation bubbles, pours with a finger of coffee colored head that dissipates rapidly and leaves silky lacing all around the glass
S: sweet malts and dark fruits
T: nice smooth taste, dark fruits are pronounced in the front, a slight sweetness and nuttiness hit in the middle, leaves a taste of dark fruits on the palate
M: gentle carbonation, silky and leaves a bit of a burnt feeling on the palate
O: a nice dubbel, pretty well rounded, best ive ever had? No, still good tho

A: poured with a nice, light tan head of 2 fingers that faded pretty quickly. The color is a dark brown like black tea.

S: The strongest aromas are malty and wheat bready. There is also a light spice of nutmeg and hints of plum or fig. The alcohol is noticeable.

T: Balance of peppery, sweet, and bready malts. Some raisin or dried dark fruit, and parsley are present. There is some slight bitterness at the end as the hops come in on the finish

M: Light to medium body, medium carbonation, and easy drinking

Overall, this is tasty dubbel that's not too heavy and quite drinkable.

Nutty brown with, I swear, vague pink highlight and a puffy, cratered taupe head that's going nowhere. Bubblegum nose with forest humus, cherry skin and cinnamon candy.
Irish brown soda loaf, fig, red plums, sultanas and soil, a clove hit, then gingerbread spice finish.
Carob, maple syrup and tobacco finish with long lingering minty tingle. Medium, lively, some chew, sticky, no burn.

Dark and deeper than I was expecting, even given it's rep. I find a lot of dubbels too light and fizzy but that's no problem here. Complex, layered and compelling.

Probably the best dubbel out there, definitely my new favorite.

Freshness date indicated this was bottled just over a year ago. Served almost straight from Fridge.

A. Poured carefully into my Westmalle Chalice. Resulted in small ring of lace but no head at all. Strange, considering other reviews i have read. Colour is dark like Cola with bubbles rising up.

S. Very sweet 'Dubbel' smell
T. Lots of yeast and sweetness upfront, with more distiguishable flavours as it warms up

M. Mouthfeel is very very good. Heavily carbonated but silky like its Tripel sister.
O. I haven't tried the Dubbel in about 5 years so i didn't know what to expect. The drinkability is better than i remember, but maybe that is also its downfall, as there is nothing too complex in the taste and is the reason i do not grab one of these very often.

Very fresh bottle, poured into an unbranded chalice. Bottle from the local grocery store.

Gently pouring the bottle out, it left me with a full glass of clear, dark caramel colored beer with a big foamy head lasting for about two minutes.

It smells like a lot of malt, yeast and dark dried fruits (raisins)

This bottle was bottled on 6 dec. 2011, so the taste was very fresh and very bitter. Not so sweet at all at this moment. I like an older bottle better, but I needed a young bottle for the yeast.

Mouthfeel is very nice. Perfectly carbonated, creamy with a touch of alcohol. Aftertaste balanced to little bitter.

Overall a very good beer. Needs some time to develop into a sweeter, less bitter, complex and interesting beer. Not so interesting when young, but I now it's full potential.

11.2oz Bottle

Appearance - Brown colour with a very large size fizzy beige coloured head. There is a low amount of carbonation showing and there is some fairly good lacing. The head lasted for over 5 minutes.

Smell - Malts, yeast, dark fruits, nuts, corn/grains

Taste & Mouth - There is an above average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, nuts and some raisins. There is also some grapes and a bit of a woodiness. It ends with a dark fruit slightly spicy aftertaste.

Overall - I think I expected a little more from this one. It has tremendous balance and is very drinkable but it doesn't have much of a wow factor. Still worth a try though.

Bottle BB 08/03/13 purchased at the MLCC. Pours ~4 C into a Duvel Snifter.

A: Ruby red edges with a brownish hue Ina fairly clear beer. Nice fluffy head that drops to a cap that laces through the whole session.
S: Nice nose with loads of dried fruits. Raisins, currants et al... Some peppery spIce in the nose too.
T: The body is a little more muted than I had expected. Some alcoholic heat plays well with the pepper. Very light fruit notes when cool, that open up a bit more over time.
M: Heavily carbonated, biting on the tongue. Fruit flavours linger.
O: A great Belgian that I just want plot be more estery in the body.

Fresh bottle review.
A-Thick creamy frothy tan head that does not linger. Clear with a ruddy brown/amber color.

S-Sweet malts (raisin) and yeasty goodness.

T-Awesome rich sweet malt taste, yeasty-sweet roll like, rum raisin with no alcohol bite.

M-Quick finish making this extremely drinkable, just a slight hint of alcohol at the end. A bit creamy.

D-Way too good.

O-Anyone looking to make a dubbel-this would be a good one to try to mimic-fantastic beer. Great taste, mouthfeel and drinkability. Love this one-my favorite of the style. Loved the price and availability in Belgium too-wish I could have brought cases of this stuff home with me.
