Poured from a 33cl bottle into my Rochefort chalice. It poured a deep, caramel brown color with a big frothy head filling half of the glass. Fantastic head retention and lacing as I drank it.

The aroma has a good amount of tart, crisp fruit to it. I get some very noticeable apple or apple juice like qualities along with some pear notes too. The Belgian yeast spice is very evident as well

The taste starts off with the Belgian yeast giving off a lot of clove, nutmeg and a little cinnamon spice. Midway the tart, apple juice like flavor really starts to come out. The crisp, tart fruits mix very nicely with the Belgian yeast spice.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied and carbonation is about average for the style. The real draw of the mouthfeel is the thick and creamy head that you get on each sip. Overall it was a good beer, and a very good example of the style. Nice beer to sip on this evening.

11.2oz bottle into my New Belgium Globe.

A: Prune/dark brown and opaque, with a huge light tan head that fades to a consistent finger of creamy lace.

S: Big fruitiness, red apples, grapes and grape juice, chalky effervescent Belgian yeast, faint cherry and red wine notes. Malty sweet undertones with moderate spiciness.

T: More spiciness emerges in the flavors, and dark fruits seem to dominate more than that apple character; I get prune and raisin. Faint alcohol bitterness on the finish. Sweeter dark malt presence, Belgian candy sugar and hints of caramel all play a supportive role.

MF: Creamy medium mouthfeel, very nice. Effervescent carbonation moves the body along.

O: Really nice dubbel, probably the best I've ever had of this style. Better than the Chimay IMO.
