This beers a big yeast bomb thats for sure. Loudest crackling I've ever heard from a beer. Dark hazy brown in color with a massive cinnamon colored head which slowly recedes to a thick sticky lace.

Big nose with lots of phenolic scents and sweet dark fruits. Some banana and clove on the back end of the nose with a big alcohol presence as well. Dieing to try it however it probably should warm a few degrees first.

This is a serious beer. Loads of caramel and brown sugar on the tip of the tongue. Big chewy mouth feel which drys out around mid way. Bizarre phenomenon in my mouth right now and loving it. Lots of spiciness on the tongue as well. Layers of sweet and herbal flavors that are so beautifully blended. None of the flavors battle each other for dominance, it's just a beautiful crescendo of taste on the tip of the tongue.

Incredibly dry finish rounds this beer out with nothing to complain about except not having enough of this beer.

I'm glad this opened my eyes to what dubbels should really be.

I have to hand Westmalle Trappist high marks. Everybody remarks about the malty flavor & fruitiness which is all true. I would just add that this beer has a very oaky and earthy flavor. Reminds me very much of St Bernardus 12.

I imagine sitting in a craftsman house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright with a fire blazing after a light and tasty dinner on a Friday night in the winter. I just leaf through an old magazine while listening to some acoustic music like John Cage's compositions for string quartet, or Larry Coryell's Bolero cd.

Pours a beige all-head which leaves a lasting floating merengue. Hazy rusty brown body. Smell has malt, caramel, and fig. Taste repeats the smell but also adds some sour rye. Body is lighter than I expected, medium weight at best. Alcohol seems even higher than the 7% reported on the bottle. All in all a good dubbel but on the hot side.
