Went with a group to see a Drive-By Truckers show at Headliners Music Hall. We made sure to arrive into Louisville several hours early to make a stop at Sergio's World Beers. The acclaim was impossible to ignore and I was curious to see how the place stacked up against other craft bars I love.
When it comes to quality and selection, this place remains one of the absolute best I've ever been to. We visited on a cold afternoon in February 2012, and were lucky enough to get 6 oz. pours of BrewDog's Tokyo. This was before any of us had ever heard of this amazing stout. We were fortunate enough to have a friendly and knowledgeable bartender that was more than happy to give us a crash-course on some of the offerings they currently had on tap. He highly recommended Tokyo, which we all had and loved. It's been one of our favorites ever since. I will always associate Sergio's with BrewDog Tokyo for that reason.
The only negative mark I can give Sergio's is the atmosphere. For the time of year we went it was uncomfortably cold inside. The temperature outside was almost exactly as it was inside, which was around 35 degrees. We never took our coats off and were shivering almost the entire time. It was a bit odd to not have heat for your customers, but the high ABV of the beers we were consuming did a sufficient job warming us up a bit.

Ok, so the place and entrance its pretty much non descriptive, the area its more residential than anything else, you open the door and your senses will be overwhelmed by the amount of stuff basically everywhere, taps handles, beer signs and many more things.
The beer in the front its good and nice, the draft list is pretty great, but the real gems are when you go to the back of the store, coolers everywhere and some beer you might have not seen ever before anywhere else, really boxes and boxes and more boxes of stuff piled up high, it cant be unseen, prices are high as they are not to go prices but to drink there.
Sergio was great willing to know and befriend people, we had a good talk and showed a particular room where he has aged versions of really hard to get beers, prices are quite higher for those beers, just to give you an idea Sergio was enjoying a westvleteren 12.
Only downside is that its chaotic and not too tidy, i did not try the food but with that type of beer who cares

Bottles of beer line the entirety of the whole establishment. Coolers, refrigerators, boxes and who knows where else they are hiding it. I've never seen so many beers in one place. They also have a nice tap selection. Last time I was there (about a year ago), they had 2008 Bigfoot and the current Devil Dancer on tap. I was certainly in beer geek heaven.
The food was decent, but nothing to write home about. The only real negative are the prices. Quite a bit overpriced, but that is what you get with that much selection. Go for the fun of it if you aren't on a budget!
