Stopped here for a pint during a visit to NYC. Wooden, spacious bar, lots of seating, run of the mill bar foods… It felt like I could have been anywhere.

Stumbled upon this place when I was on a day trip to the city with my girlfriend. The look of the place is quaint and kind of tiny but has a very nice vintage feel to it. The bartender was very cool she was willing to offer me samples of just about anything they had on tap at the time. The beer selection was pretty good here lots of micros to choose from and some of the typical adjunct stuff too. The food was really good I thought. I felt that the place was a little pricey because it was in the city. Everything in the city costs more it seems. So for someone who lives there it might not be too bad. I would go back here again, I actually recommend it to people who are going to NYC that I know.

I'm surprised this place has only four reviews here, as it is one of the better beer bars in New York City. I've been coming here for years (when it was still called "Westside Brewing", even though they stopped brewing some fifteen years ago) and have long had a love-hate relationship with the Ale House.

Beer selection is very good, but super expensive. Service can be good or can be blah. Food is decidedly and unabashedly mediocre. But still, when you're up around the UWS and want a good craft beer, this is the place (along with George Keeley, not too far from the Ale House).

Here you will find a long narrow bar, which is the best seat in the house, and lots of tables for a sit-down dinner. It is very cramped and cozy, can get crowded and noisy, but never out of control. You can find some room on a Friday or Saturday night, which is almost a luxury in this insanely packed town of ours.

There are about fifteen craft taps, listed as "seasonals" in the menu, plus a bunch of macros (Stella, Newcastle, BMC stuff, Guinness, whatever). A focus on locals/regionals like Sixpoint, Brooklyn, Ommegang, but not their flagships but their more rare offerings, which I appreciate. So you'll find things like Blue Point Sour Cherry Imperial Stout, Sixpoint Mad Scientist, Southern tier Ne'Tra Gal. Cool shit.

Prices are high and servings are small (12 oz for big beers). Nothing under seven dollars, except for Guinness/Stella bull.

Food is blah. Greasy boring pub food cooked by Mexicans. Not worth.

I like this place. I won't come here often because of the prices and the "weird" locale (can be too dark, too noisy, too sporty, too whatever), but I enjoy it. Give it a try.

No food for me, just a beer. I was staying overnight in the UWS and was out wandering after dinner. There was a chalk-written sign on the sidewalk that said "30 beers on tap!" with arrows pointing forward and to the left, so I followed. As I entered the bar, I heard a guy say, "See? I told you it world work." Glad it did. This is a small, noisy place with too many televisions but a decent tap and bottle list. Actually, the bottles were rather average in selection but high in price, whereas the tap selection was quite wide and reasonably priced (for NYC). I had a Captain Lawrence Liquid Gold Ale which was very good and worth the $6 pint. The bartender was attentive and friendly but also let me be. A cool dark cave on a humid evening, I'd happily wander in again.

This place is located about a block from my girlfriend's apartment in NYC and needless to say, we head there fairly frequently when we don't feel like going further.

The place is fairly small with the bar situated on the right as you go in and tables spread throughout the remainder of the space on the left. Very quaint and old world feeling pub atmosphere.

Selection is decent in terms of representing New York craft beer and some import craft beer as well. I had a Pozharnik and a Rodenbach Grand Cru on my last visit. It isn't the best tap list in the city but it definitely gets the job done for a nearby place.

The food is standard pub food but rather pricey for what it is. I got a quesadilla that cost like twelve dollars. I've met better deals at other bars in NYC. Service is usually pretty good though, and we tend to sit at the bar as well.

Overall, a decent little bar with a nice enough selection. Recommended if you're in the neighborhood but not worth seeking out over some other craft beer establishments in the city.

Mixed feelings on this place - the beer selection is good w/ a bunch of bottles from local breweries and American micros, as well as rotating taps of American and imports. Prices for the beer are standard for the area, but the food is not worth price. Worse, the server asked us (it was a Friday night around 7 so it was busy but not real busy) if we were eating and we said "not right now" as we had planned on staying and eating a little later (watching the Yankees-Twins game). She grabbed the silverware and walked away and when we did order (I ordered a $12 pulled pork sandwich that you can get in any bar) she didn't give it back. That's the type of stuff that makes you not go back and tell other people to avoid this place, even if it might be an isolated incident.

This is the old westside brewery and as far as I can tell the only thing that's changed is the same as far as I can tell.

Great draft list, original beer bar in a neighborhood that now has a number of beer bars. 50 or 60 taps with 7 or eight rotating. Always get a lot of interesting drafts on the rotating both from the local brewers (captian Lawrence and Sixpoint) as well as many high profile california, colorado and portland brewers.

Food is typical pub grub but the Jalepeno Poppers are the best in the neightborhood.
