This classic dry stout is moderately bittered with E. Kent Golding hops and is balanced between Roasted Barley and Chocolate Malts. It is fermented with Irish Ale Yeast that leaves the finish of the beer dry, thick and delicious.

I tried this beer on tap at Dragonmead, declared it my favorite the brewery had to offer, and promptly added a growler of it to my collection. This very well balanced brew is also very complex for DIS, impressing me from the get-go.
Pouring an opaque black with no highlights, this brew offers a relatively short head and nothing much in the way of lace. But what it lacks in appearance it more than makes up for in flavor.
The aroma is of earthy cocoa and coffee. Somewhat mild with a bit of toffee. Well checked, but I could stand for a bit more intensity.
This is where the beer shines. Slightly syrupy milk chocolate sweetness and coffee. Caramel and some smoky acidity. Nicely toasted malt cereal. Possessing the creaminess of a DIS but more flavorfully complex and pronounced. Very nicely done. Balance is the key to this selection.
Moderate/low carbonation. Relatively high for Dragonmean, but most of their beers are on the lower end as far as carbonation. Somewhat dry with some warmth, but still retains a nice creaminess characteristic of the style.

On tap at the Dragonmead Brew Pub. Interesting name!
Poured a medium brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of chocolate and earthiness. Tastes of chocolate, earthy, and some lighter coffee in the finish.
Notes from and tasted on: 1/2/2009.

They say an English style stout, at the brewpub and popular so it is frequent on cask. Black with mocha small head but lots of lace. Strong carbonation, drinkable and concentrated flavour, above average mouthfeek. Some roast, chocolate malt. Not what you expect.

Enjoyed at the brewpub. Black with ruby highlights topped by a thin dark brown head of fine bubbles. Good head retention with some streaky lacing. The aroma was all dark malt - burnt, roast and coffee. Mild bitterness, again with the burnt/roast/coffee combo, but with some sweet caramel that rounds things out. Medium bodied with low carbonation and some dryness. Quite good overall.
