The American hop Cascade is used to give this brew its classic American Aroma. Pale and Crystal malt from the U.S. are used to give this beer a medium body and high hop flavor. This beer goes down easily and opens the door to a world of microbrewed beers.

I've tried the Crooked Door at the brewpub, and made a mental note that it'd be pretty tastey with some hot wings. Well, yesterday I had the time to snag a growler and some wings, so I naturally went with the Crooked Door.

It pours a nice, medium amber with about a fingers worth of foam. Lacing was definitely present, as it is with most Dragonmead brews. Smells of malts and caramel mostly, with a slight amount of hops peaking through.

It's a bit sweet on the palate, lots of caramel, malts... ever so slight hop finish makes you come back for another drink. Not super carbonated, nor very thick, these go down easier than you may notice ;)

By no means a strong beer, Dragonmead's Crooked Door American Amber Ale is a fantastic compliment to spicier foods, and not bad for a session beer. I'd order it again.

This brew was served on tap at Dragonmead in Warren, Michigan. It arrived in a standard tasting glass, showing ruby hues through a base coloring of watered terra cotta. It held a half finger tall head of fat straw colored bubbles, but this retained only briefly. No real haze or sediment was noted, and carbonation appeared to be active. The aroma gave muddy amber and pale maltiness, adjuncty white corn, densely herbal and brown grassy hoppiness, light phenolic clove, honeycomb, wood lacquer, clayed mineral, baked pretzels, and toasted whole grain breadiness. The taste gave more of the same, with a sharp dropping off of those base hops. Notes included metallic amber maltiness, burlap, dried brown grassiness and straw, pale and wheaty adjuncty grain, sugary white grape juiciness, macerated canned pear syrups, starch, white chalk, and gentle, but surprisingly present, fusel booziness. The body was lightly medium, and the carbonation was towards the high end. Mouthfeel offered little in the way of slurp and smack, cream and froth, or pop and glug, with the latter being the easiest going of the bunch. The mouth was left with a mild toasty astringency, and was otherwise decently satiated. The abv was appropriate, and general drinkability was okay.

Overall, this was probably our least favorite of the night, in both execution and ability to induce excitement in the drinker. This beer was chosen out of hurried desperation, as the one that we had attempted to order had just been kicked. If nothing else, we have proven that these big decisions in life (ie what beer to order) require delicate and thorough contemplation. They also offered this on cask, but again, we decided to go with their standard, tried and true presentation. Our biggest complaint would have to be freshness. None of the ingredients, across either the flavor or the aroma, came across as particularly clean or fresh. Things were rather muddied, “browned”, and just a little stale. Had this been a more zesty, brighter beer, we would have much more enjoyed it as that has seemingly become the standard for amber ales.

Deep, clear copper-colored beer. Malt dominant aroma with caramel being the main aroma component. Fair malt body, again caramel seems to be the main player, along with weak notes of hop bitterness, just enough to make a dent in the malt presence. Fair and typical amber ale.

This one smells hoppy, even though it's an Amber (confusing). The color was reddish-orange and clear. There was a small amount of lacing with this one. This beer had a hoppy taste, which I usually don't care for. It was less hoppy as it got warmer though.

at the brewery from the tap. poured a medium amber with a tan head that didn’t last very long. aroma light malts and caramel, with just a hint of hops. flavor, caramel , honey, malts and a little fruity. this would be one of the beers you might want to give to somebody that wants to explore the wolrd of micro brews. not to bad.
