Not a bad IPA.
Looks very red in nature when its poured, has a light hoppy smell to it. Was not as hoppy as you would like an IPA to be and it was a little on the sweeter side for a nice IPA. I would recommend trying it if you can because it is not a bad beer. However there are many other IPA's out there that are more like classic IPA's. This one just does not have the hoppy touch that it needs for me.

Copper pour with a gushing head. Had to wait a long time for it to settle down.
Smells grassy and malty. There are some hops here but those are muted. Tastes pretty much the same with some caramel and biscuit flavors making an appearance but this is the epitome of average. I'm bored with this beer which means a boring review.
I can see the drinkability being better than average, but I don't need to have another one of these. It's an IPA which would get lost among the dozens and dozens of better ones out there.

This was a nice change of pace for me, most IPA's made in amercia are just that Americian (aka C hops). Pours rich amber in color with minamal amount of head. Aroma of earthy English hops fuggle/northdown maybe, didnt smell or taste like EKG too me. Medium to full body. Very drinkable everything is balanced well malt, hop aroma/flavor, and bitterness. This beer is priced alittle high for a 4 pack @ $10

(Served in a nonic)
A- This beer pours a dark copper penny hued body that is a bit dense with a warm tan creamy head that forms a cloud in the middle of the beer which is supported by a gentle carbonation of big bubbles.
S- This beer has a soft green hops aroma with a toasted malt smell that is well balanced. There is a dry staw aroma in the malt.
T- There is a slight dark caramel malt taste with cream note and a watermelon note that comes through as it warms. There is a soft green fresh finish that has a soft bitter bite at the finish.
M- This beer has a medium mouthfeel with no alchol heat noticed.
D- This beer has a malt flavor that is interesting with a soft but nice hops flavor until the watermelon flavor steps in and is a bit odd. There is a bit of a watery taste that comes through as part of the watermelon flavor.

On tap at the brewery. Grapefruit orange colour.Good head, lots of lace. Hoppy aroma Medium body, creamy. Appropriate aggressive carbonation. Fruity grapefruit taste. Strongly malted, not that bitter. Nicely drinkable IPA.ABout a year later bottled and a sweetish IPA.

12oz single, received in a trade from nsjer05
appearance: pours a deep amber-mahogany into a great dane imperial pint glass, 1/2" tan cloud forms on top...decent retention, tan rim of lacing left behind
smell: rich and nutty, thick caramel, roasted peanut, touch of alcohol, toasted malt, toffee, brown sugar, light floral hops, butter scotch....a very full aroma
taste: This is a very strong english ipa, probably my new fav of the style...thick toasted malt, creamy caramel, roasted peanut, other general nutty character, worthers original butterscotch candy, slight alcohol presence, decent hop bitterness, slightly woody, toffee, brown sugar...quite tasty!
mouthfeel: medium-full bodied, light bitterness, creamy
drinkability: above average

12 oz bottle into a pint glass.
Pours a clear coppery amber with 2 1/2 fingers of foamy off-white head. Smooth layer of creamy retention leaves some great looking sticky lace back. The aroma is very dry and spicy in the nose, with some grassy and lightly piney accents as well. A thickly sweet tang sits underneath the hop character, giving this some beefy balancing sweetness.
The aggressively spicy bitterness of this really carries over to the taste. The tang of caramel, bread, and citrus is equally up to the task though, and actually helps bring out the assertive spiciness of the hops and the overall dry lingering feel of this. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a moderately creamy feel up front but then the alcohol begins to appear, with a touch of a heavier and flatter feel towards the back. I wouldn't say the the ABV absolutely detracts from the flavors or anything but I think that is does slow the drinkibility a bit.
Solid (if not maybe a bit too beefy) take on an English IPA, this certainly didn't skimp on the spicy hop character. Decent in the bottle, I seem to remember enjoying this a bit more on draft at the brewpub.

Pours a hazy amber color with a massive head that prevented the entire bottle from being poured into the glass. Took a long time to complete the pour. PITA. The head never really settles. Massive amount of lacing is left on the glass.
Malty aroma gives off hints of toffee and caramel. Hops have aromas of mint and grass.
A very large English IPA. Plenty of bitter and even some alcohol. Toffee flavors from the malt is complimented by mint and herbal qualities from the hops. Alcohol plays a large role in the finish. I can understand the confusion of which style this beer is classified.
The body feels substantial enough considering the ABV level. Nicely carbonated.
Maybe next time I will pour the beer immediately after removal from the refrigerator. Otherwise this is an interesting IPA that does not follow the pack.

Lovely pour...deep copper with a nice white head on top of it. Smell is maltier than I would expect for an IPA...hops are also present, but are not the centre of attention.
Taste starts out with hops, but then quickly goes into a nice soft orange effect. Sweet malts are all over the place on this one, and seem to balance quite well with the subdued hop flavour. Not as aggressive as most IPAs, I liked the effect.
The mouth on this is full, carbonated, creamy with hop bitters in the right places. Enjoyable. Drinkability on this is also good, and for me, better than many IPAs because it isn't out to utterly dominate your mouth.

Full on English hop character in this one. Tea-like, floral, with rich toffee caramel undertones. Bready with minimal sweetness, and moderate bitterness.
It does a good job of retaining a fluffy khaki head, and has a deep fossilized amber coloration. Aroma is a little funky, bready but slightly stale. There was a hint of floral hops initially, but they seem to have disappeared.
Low carbonation, and full bodied. Lingering dry finish, with tobacco leaf and light herbal bitterness. Overall an easy drinker, and a good example of an English IPA.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a pint glass. I don't see any freshness date on the bottle.
One finger of light tan head lasts longer than I thought it would. Hazy orange/brown body. Malty and citrusy aroma. Smooth feel with quite a bit of citrus rind flavor. Nothing about it really wowed me but it's a solid example of Michigan IPA's.

Bottle courtesy of Sammy: Poured a dark brown color ale with a medium bubbly head with minimal retention. Aroma of bitter hops with some citrus characteristic is dominating. Taste is a well balance mix between some caramel malt and some citrusy and bitter hops. There might have been some English hops in there since the bitterness was more dry then usual. I thought this was relatively well done and slightly different then most IPA out there.

Poured hyper clear amber color with some red highlights and smallish tan head. Minor shet of lace on the glass.
Aroma was some buttery diacetyl, some caramel and a whiff of spiced hop. Little mellow for an IPA.
Flavor has some bready/biscuit malt notes along with just a hint of caramel. Sweet to some extent with no really hop bite at all.
Mouthfeel was sweet and more sweet. No balance whatsoever with any hops.
Drinkability was OK but this is no where near and IPA. Sort of amber if anything. But disappointing when expecting an IPA but a semi-tasty brew nonetheless.

Another local goodie I received as an extra recently. This one I decided to crack open last night with dinner. Served cold and poured into a pint glass, it was consumed on 06/03/2009.
The pour was decent, rich copper amber in color with a nice head of white coming up and over the top of the glass that settled down with a nice amount of lacing up and down the sides of the glass. Aroma was all over the place. Light herbal notes, a touch of grass and citrus and a deep malt bill, but seemed to me to be a bit mashed up to really make an impression in any one way or another. Smooth, even flavor but again nothing to write home about, it just seemed to really not dominate in any one way.
Overall forgettable. Not terrible but it was painfully average. I would not really go for it again.

A- Dark amber- copper color, little to no head, minimal lacing if any.
S- Strange metallic like sent. Almost a sour malt overtone. Not great.
T- Mild malt flavor comes through first. A nice hop bitterness prevails next. Not overpowering in any respect. Not overwhelming either I'm afraid. Fortunately every sip is better than the last.
M- This IPA kind of coats the mouth. Goes down ok, can't complain too much, after all I am enjoying a cold beer. But I have had better.
O- Maybe should of tried this before I enjoyed a 90 minute. You can't do much better than Dogfish heads masterpiece. But I don't hate it at all.
