Growler purchased yesterday.

A - Into a standard pint, it pours a deep mahagony with amber highlights. Head is frothy and the lacing is crazy.

S - Muted smokey malts, a nice roasted malt note, dark dried fruit. No booze in the nose. Nothing huge, nothing off.

T - Quite fruity and sweet up front, with a slightly bitter smoke finish. Not as big and doesn't have the malty complexity I normally look for in a Wee Heavy.

M - Smooth, creamy carbonation and a medium/thick body.

D - This is killer on draft and in a growler. Not my all-time fave Wee Heavy but a legitimately good offering.

Notes: Dragonmead was my first microbrewery I've ever went to. Their quality, years later, is still great.

12oz bottle

A- Dark Brown with a slight red hue. No head and no lacing, poured pretty hard so kinda suprising.

S- Roasted malt, molasses, brown sugar, peat, smells real good

T- Dark roast and peat up front, some dark fruitiness to finish it off.

M- Medium and slick, not much in carbonation

O- Pretty good flavor balance, easy to drink, smells real good, gonna have to try this one at the brewery on tap. Only let down out of the bottle was the lack of a head or lacing.

Undated bottle at 50 degrees into standard pint glass
Aroma of malt
Head small (2 cm), off white, creamy, rapidly diminishing to partial 2mm layer
Lacing scant; few small clots of bubbles
Body dark amber, hazy
Flavor moderately sweet and malty; no alcohol, no hops, no diacetyl. Ends sweet with stomach afterburn.
Palate medium to full, creamy, soft carbonation.

Meh. OK but not wonderful.

Deep brown, almost black coloring upon pour, 12oz bottle into snifter. Very little head, but off white where it is. Nice caramel, molasses on the nose. Very smooth, sweetness upon a low carbonated mouthfeel. Overall great Scotch Ale/Wee Heavy, give her a try! Cheers!

Undated 12 oz bottle served in a snifter.

Pours dark but clear, with a tan head of moderate size and retention. Minimal lacing.

Aroma: more like wine vinegar than Scotch Ale.
Flavor: Some vinegar here too, about matching the dark malts. Light smoke in the finish.

O: "Unique taste" indeed. Probably not at its best, but then again the bottle was from a reliable store, and carefully cold-stored for just a few months. I note other reviewers have reported "bad' versions of the bottled ale.

Appearance: A near opaque brown with lively red highlights. Poured with a light tan head that dissipated.

Aroma: Sweet and yeasty.

Taste: Candy sweet like the aroma with a suggestion of breadiness. Scant hoppiness in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: The perfect body for this style, though maybe a little over carbonated.

Overall: This is a winner! Very enjoyable on a cool Fall night.
