I've got really mixed feelings about this beer! It poured ebony black. With a thin white head that dissipated. The aroma was of black licorice. This is followed by a very powerful licorice flavor. (I'm not a fan of black licorice). I felt it needed quite a bit more maltiness, more roastiness. Perhaps, my problem is that the black color made me expect more roasted flavor? It finished pretty clean leaving maybe a note of coriander. I wasn't a fan.

I am a fan of Scandanavian style beers, a good variation onthe Belgians spiced and dark. This was brown with some lace. Like a barleywine and old ale. Didn't get that much of spice, but there is clove and ginger and cardommon thrown together. Enjoyed at the brewpub. Carbonation and mouthfeel they got right.

Pours a deep mahogany red color with virtually no head and no lace.
Aroma is nutmerg, mal, cinnamon, ginger, slight smoke, slight hop bitterness and pine trees.
Flavors of nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon, pine and slight charcoal/smoke. Very well-balanced with all spices up front, minor malt sweetness in the middle and some minor bitterness in the back end. If I had to really describe it I would call it a malty ginger ale. Somehow putting everything together really works.
Mouthfeel is nice and lively with just right amount of carbonation.
Not sure I want more than a pint but very good winter beer,

On tap at the Dragonmead Brew Pub.

Poured a deeper brown color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of lots of spices - nutmeg, ginger and cloves. Some cinnamon as well. Tastes of the same spices. This one was all about the spices which drowned out anything else.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 11/6/2014. Pours hazy deep ruby red/brown color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, toast, light chocolate, raisin, plum, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, ginger, orange peel, wood, and herbal/spice earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, spices, and fruity yeast notes; with good strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, toast, light chocolate, raisin, plum, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, ginger, orange peel, wood, and herbal/spice earthiness. Light spice bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, toast, light chocolate, raisin, plum, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, ginger, orange peel, and herbal/spice earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice robustness and complexity of dark/bready malt, spices, and fruity yeast flavors; with a great malt/spice balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and lightly creamy/bready/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice spiced dark ale style. All around good balance, robustness, and complexity of dark/bready malt, spices, and fruity yeast flavors; and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Garnet red color with a thin off white head. Strong spice nose with lots of ginger and orange peel in it. Lots of holiday spices in the flavor with cinnamon, clove, and ginger apparent. A little spice burn on the tongue. I found enough of a malty beer base to support all the spices. I enjoyed this stuff.

Enjoyed at the brewpub. Clear chestnut beer topped by a thin cap of light brown foam. Good head retention and streaky lacing stuck to the glass. Malty aroma with a light fruitiness, some plum, and nutmeg. Mild bitterness with a mild malt sweetness, plums, and a spicy finish. Off-dry with a medium/light body and carbonation. Quite drinkable. An interesting offering from Dragonmead that I enjoyed a lot. I'd definitely have this again.

On tap at the brew pub. There is is classified as a "Norwegian Spiced Ale", something I had never heard of before and needed to try.

Pours a dark cloudy black with a foamy head. Smell and taste were a combination of many strange sweet spices including cloves and nutmeg. The spices faded fairly quickly however and the finish was light and clean. After the initial awkwardness wore off this was pretty drinkable.
