Only been here once, and it was a real mixed occasion.

The location isn't ideal but it's adjacent to the freeway and there is plenty of space. The medieval theme is pretty cool, and the place was relaxed.

The beer selection was outstanding. Can't remember offhand but had to be at least 40 different brews. My girlfriend and I sampled as much as we could, and unfortunately you could tell they focus more on quantity than quality. While the beers were better than what you can get in Downriver or Detroit, only a couple of them were worth ordering pints of. Some of those were pretty damned good, though.

They don't have a full food menu but do have some snacks/appetizers, and, I believe, allow food to be brought in.

The service was abysmal, however. There was a party of 16 or so in there and a handful of waitresses catering to them. The one in charge of us was nonexistent, and it took 10 mins for us to be greeted and another 5-10 for our beer order to be taken. When we finally got our beer, approximately 25-30 mins after sitting down, a different waitress dropped it off and I asked if we could order some snacks and she literally said, "Not from me," and walked away to cater to the party. My gf had to go up to the bar to order food and one of the bartenders asked her why she didn't just wait for our waitress, and seemed bothered by us. When we were done with our first flight we waited about 10 mins and realized our waitress wasn't there anymore so we went up to the bar and sat down, hoping the service would be better. A guy greeted us and was ostensibly the only non-rude attentive employee present, but after a few minutes he started rounds around the seating area and the woman who took his place (same one who told us we couldn't order food from her) was rude and inattentive. I tried to talk to her about different beers and also the prices of their merchandise and she was dismissive. I asked how much of the stuff they bottle and she replied, "Can't you see what's in the display over there?" Which really put me off. We left shortly thereafter as it seemed the employees were all either having a bad day or too busy fellating the party that was there.

Would I go back? Maybe. I'd like to see if the service was an anomaly or the usual, but, while some of the beer warranted returning, we were too agitated by how we were treated to do so. The next night we drove out to Kuhnhenn, not far from Dragonmead, and had a much, much better experience (and enjoyed better beer).

Not the most appealing location or building to the eye, but it's definitely worth the stop.

It looks like it used to be some old Italian Pizzeria or something...kind of a long, banquet style building, typical of what you would see in the Detroit 'burbs.

No food, but they have some snacks for you to chew on...And a huge tap list. They offer every style you can imagine at Dragonmead. English IPA, English Bitter, California Common, Belgian Triple, Russian Imperial Stout...really great to see, and all the beers were very clean and tasty good.

A really hometowny feel to it. I could see some local folks just hanging here because it's a nice warm atmosphere, not really because they are beer geeks.

I'll stop again, I really dug the place. Nothing outrageously special, just good clean beers, and a solid atmosphere.

Dragonmead is a small pub with a very neighborhood feel. It's quite family-oriented. The service is excellent. Every time I go back to Detroit to visit family, we tend to congregate at Dragonmead.

They don't have a kitchen, so they don't have much to offer in terms of food, aside from pretzels, etc. At the same time, they'll allow you to bring your own food or order delivery from some local places.

The brew masters really know their business. The beer tends to be top-notch, and the servers are great.

If you are in the Detroit area and enjoy good beer and a mellow pub, you won't be disappointed with Dragonmead.

I seriously had the worst bar/restaurant experience of my life last night. The staff was rude, the bouncer was rude, the whole place was unacceptable from a customer service stand point.

When i joined my party it took 15 minutes before someone stopped by to see if I wanted something to drink. When my friend showed up 20 minutes later, first the bouncer came over to our table and demanded to see her ID (she looks young yes but she's 23 and he was incredibly rude in how he went about carding her) and then nobody EVER came by to ask her if she'd like something, she never even got one drink.

Then when our table got the check one of our group asked the server if they could charge $44 (of our $200+ bill) to his credit card, he was told that they do not do that because that would constitute splitting a bill which they REFUSE to do. He had already added up his total and told them how much to charge, not split anything off, just charge his portion of the bill to his card. Their response was "It's not that we can't do it, it's that we won't do it." ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. What happens when a group only has credit cards? Is on perso. Forced to charge the whole bill on their card because dragonmead refuses to be accomodating.

Best believe I will never return there with my business. I will never even buy a dragonmead product at another bar. I will also tell everyone I know about how horrible my experience was there, and I mean EVERYONE, friends, family, and complete strangers.

I will happily go to the Falling Down Beer company (better beer, better food, and a better staff) with my business from now on when we want micro-brews. To be honest I would rather find a hole in the wall bar and drink bud light on tap before I ever return to or give dragonmead my business again.
