App: Black with some coffee brown tint. Creamy, frothy brown head. Some lacing and mild head retention.

Nose: Chicory, coffee, toffee and toast. A bit of sweet malt at the end.

Taste: The taste matches the nose. Coffee at first, which goes sweet into toffee and malt. No real hop profile in the nose or taste.

Notes: Had this on a cold snowy day with chocolate chip cookies. Not a bad beer.

12oz brown bottle.

Fizzy head, thin ring of lacing and as dark as brown can get. Hint of chicory and over-toasted bread in the nose with a fume of alcohol. Smooth and creamy with a slick full body. Malt character is pretty big, roasted flavors are held to a minimum though there is a mocha thing going on here. Hops? not much here ... sweetness and some alcohol play it out. Soon the malt leaves and the alcohol warms for a semi-dry finish.

A bit roasty for the style, an OK flavor over all just not the best example.

Appearance - Pours a dark cola brown with a slight reddish tinge. Half finger light tan head that dissipates almost instantaneously, leaving a barren, flat surface and a miniscule ring of suds around the edge of the glass. Almost no lacing to be found.

Smell - Toasted malt with caramel and some brown sugar/molasses sweetness. Faint cocoa notes.

Taste - Follows the nose. Molasses and some caramel sweetness, giving it a very cola-like flavor. Faint touches of cocoa come through near the finish, along with a very light grassy hop presence. Aftertaste leaves a fair toffee sweetness and just a touch of alcohol warmth, especially as the brew reaches room temp.

Mouthfeel - Medium in body with tingly, almost biting carbonation. Very smooth; I wouldn't guess this to be 8% if I hadn't read the bottle.

Overall - Doppelbock? Hmmm. Has the ABV, but not quite the full flavor to go with. Decent, but I've had much, much better.

My first Fireman's brew is rather pleasant. Dark brunette reddish tinged brew with a thick beaded tan head that dies down to leave a light foam and light lacing on the glass. Nose of toffee, chocolate, and sweet malts. Great mouthfeel with toffee and caramel up front, chocolate on the back and sweet malts to the side with mild corbonation. Alcohol is well hidden in this one, that said it does not remind me of many dopplebocks, yet a solid brew in it's own right. More of a sweet brown with some alcohol kick. Cheers.

A: The beer is very close to being black in color—faint traces of reddish brown are visible near the corner of the glass when it is held up to a bright light. It poured with a thin tan head that quickly faded away, leaving only a small patch of bubbles in the center of the glass and a thin collar around the edge.
S: Light aromas of dark malts are present in the nose along with equal hints of roasted malts and sweetness.
T: The taste mostly follows the smell, except no roasted flavors are present and there is a slight bit of sweetness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer seemed rather light in body for a doppelbock and seemed more to me like a beer from the schwartzbier style.

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

Finishing things up with the spunky brunette, often overlooked but usually the best catch (no offense to the fiery redhead...ever...). This stuff pours a garnet-tinted sienna topped by a finger of khaki foam. The nose comprises dried maple syrup, toasted biscuit, dusty grass, and a kiss of milk chocolate powder. The taste holds notes of roasted malts, light coffee, decidedly watered-down molasses, and a tocuh of cocoa powder. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a relatively smooth feel. Overall, the best of the Fireman's Brew Charlie's Angels, but it's still a fairly meek d-bock. It ain't entirely bad, but it's still pretty weak.

Thanks to SanDiegoBeerLove for tossing one of these in a recent trade. I drank this one out of my Rose-Hulman pint glass. Pours a dark thin brown color with a short bubbly head. I know it is easy to describe some beers as a cola, but this looks so much like a coke. Bigger bubbles that rise quickly to the top with a semi-fizzy foam. The head dissipates quickly and leaves a small island of brown foam in the middle. Halfway through my beer, there is nothing left on the top. No lacing on this guy either.

Has a very nutty smell - also has the scotch caramel smell that you get on some dopplebocks. No alcohol is detected at all. Also has a light roasty malty characteristic.

Taken a bit off-guard as I took my first swig. A very thin mouthfeel with virtually no carbonation. I expected a fuller-bodied beer, but this doesn't even reach medium. The malts are there, but I was hoping they would be even more pronounced. Has a bit of the caramel-sweet taste and finishes with the nuttiness detected form the first whiff. Taste is gone very quickly, and extremely mild. I am blown away that this thing clocks in at nearly 11% ABV - not detectable at all.

The flavor of this guy is good, they have that down. However, it just doesn't have the malt profile that I expect from a top-notch dopplebock. I know they claim they pounded this guy with malts, but I think they could go even further. As it is, it is extremely drinkable. Seriously, there is ZERO alcohol detected and very low carbonation. At 10.8%, this beer goes down way too easily. Overall, a good brew.

App- Almost a darker red with some brown highlights. A little bit of head on it as well.

Smell- Just almost where it needs to be a little bit more with the malt and the dark fruits.

Taste- Just feel apart, watery, thin and just not appealing.

Mouth- Medium bodied and medium carbed. No real aftertaste

Drink- I had such high hopes to find another great US dopplebock but wasnt meant to be.
