Fireman's Brew Brunette Beer from Fireman's Brew, Inc. pours a midnight red from a 12 fl. oz. dark amber brown glass bottle with a pry off crown. Head went to about 2 fingers of light tanish brown fine foam bubbles that settled out to a full ring with islands and lacing of before mentioned foam.

Nose is of fig and plumb with a touch of roasted walnut and the vapors of alcohol.

I was not expecting a citrus sour note at all, but there was a distinct sour up front. The sour was not untoward, but unexpected. Sweet roasted malt with fig follow.

Aftertaste is a lingering subtle dry sour with a mix of sundry fruits.

Not a bad brew, but not Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock.

On tap at Slater's 50/50 in Pasadena, CA.

Pours a hazy brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, roasted malt, and slight coffee aromas. Taste is much the same with a fruity flavor on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but the smells are a bit muted.

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

Finishing things up with the spunky brunette, often overlooked but usually the best catch (no offense to the fiery redhead...ever...). This stuff pours a garnet-tinted sienna topped by a finger of khaki foam. The nose comprises dried maple syrup, toasted biscuit, dusty grass, and a kiss of milk chocolate powder. The taste holds notes of roasted malts, light coffee, decidedly watered-down molasses, and a tocuh of cocoa powder. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a relatively smooth feel. Overall, the best of the Fireman's Brew Charlie's Angels, but it's still a fairly meek d-bock. It ain't entirely bad, but it's still pretty weak.

Very dark brown body with a rich, creamy tan head; nice lacing down the glass. Chocolate malt notes in the smell. Taste also includes rich chocolate flavors with an oh-so subtle hop bitterness and alcohol at the finish. Medium-heavy body, fairly well carbonated.

A smooth, tasty chocolate doppelbock. A little on the over-carbonated side for me, but otherwise an excellent chocolatey malted doppelbock without being overly heavy on the alcohol taste.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass on May 31, 2012. Minimal head, well less than a finger. Color was maroon black, reminded me of grape cough syrup. Caramel tan lacing that went away fairly quickly.

Lots of different smells that didn’t initially match up that well. Got caramel and toffee notes, then dark chocolate. Also some coffee malts in there as well

Tasted a bit better than the smell, at least more balanced. Got roasted toffee malts up front, followed by dark chocolate and coffee. Got a weird aftertaste that was a bit like cough syrup.

Full-to-medium body. Thinner texture. Average carbonation. Smooth finish.

A decent beer. I’d give it another try, along with some of their other beers.

12 fl oz brown glass bottle with standard pressure cap served into me conical Guinness pint glass in me gaff in low altitude Los Angeles, California. Reviewed live. Expectations are average given the brewery - with which I'm not horribly impressed.

Served refrigerator cold and allowed to warm over the course of consumption. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

A: Pours a one finger head of slight tan colour - quite thin, no cream, and bad retention. Colour is a solid black. No yeast particles are visible.

Sm: Dark malts - some of them toasted. A mild strength aroma. A bit unexpected, but not unique or special.

T: Dark malts form the foundation, with a slight vague hint of roast and a hint of chocolate. Very simple yet to style. Not layered, complex, or subtle. Not unique or special. It's pleasant for what it is, but it's boring and uninspired. Why brew this?

Mf: Smooth and wet. A touch too thick. Adequately carbonated.

Dr: Drinkable but unremarkable. Boring. Very mundane. I wouldn't have it again. Fans of the style might enjoy it. It's not bad, but it's far from good.
