Appearance: Poured from a bottle left over from St. Pat's day into a pint glass. As expected the beer is black with the pour producing a light brown head about 1/2 an inch in height. Head fades to a solid cover and leaves a little lace.
Smell: For me this is in line with a typical Irish dry stout. Malt aromas dominate here with scents of roasted coffee and a hint of chocolate to go with it along with a little something else I can't quite place.
Taste: Followiing in line with the smell of the beer, I get a malt-centric stout (which is to be expected IMO). The roasted malts abound, taste of coffee and bitter chocolate (not sweet or milk chocolate). A nice bitterness on the finish as well.
Mouthfeel: I'm thinking Guiness extra stout (from the bottle) light. Medium body with a decent carbonation. Lighter than expected and a bit prickly on the tongue and throat when going down.
Drinkability: A nice drinkable Irish stout. Course that seems to be the trademark of Guinness beers. Sure they look intimidating (dark beer with a motor oil look) but in reality these are good, tasty, highly sessionable (drinkable) beers.
