Poured from an 11.2-oz. bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance: Black and opaque, even when held up to sunlight. One-and-a-half finger creamy head right after pouring. Decent lacing. Of course, Guinness has always looked good, but usually that's where the quality ends (unless we're talking Extra Stout). So let's see how this fares....
Smell: Not much better than usual in this category, unfortunately. We get definite but not very potent malts, and nothing more. Still, it's certainly not a bad smell, and makes me want to go ahead and taste it....
Taste: You know what regular Guinness tastes like? Well, take that, and add just a bit more flavor. This is not threatening to overtake Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout as a majestic stout by any means, but it's certainly enjoyable. It tastes malty and crisp at the same time, and is a bit less creamy than the normal Guinness.
Mouthfeel: More carbonated than I expected. It's a little fizzy on the tongue. It does have some body though, so it's all right.
Drinkability: This is very, very easy to drink. This is basically a 'background music' sort of drink, meaning that I'd have no problem drinking lots of these, provided I had good company and conversation and it wasn't the focus of attention.
Place this beer right in between Guinness normal stout and Guinness extra stout. It doesn't have near the flavor and potency of the latter, but it's sure as hell more respectable than the shameful former.
