Pours a black color with a creamy tan head that fades to good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and a bit of nut in the background. Taste of roasted malt, almost burnt, coffee, some chocolate and bit of nut.

I'm a fan of Guiness, but I've had the privilege to drink it in the home countries, as well as Down Under,, and sadly the locally brewed stuff just isn't up to scratch. Whether it's brewed from a syrup, or slightly changed to accommodate a different regional palate and climate, I'm not sure. But my goodness my Guinness, I'll still enjoy it when I have it.
Vessel: 750ml 'long neck' "pinched" from the in-laws fridge. I had placed in the fridge when I was making Beef & Guinness Stew and had a bottle left over. Poured into my authentic Guinness pint brought home from Ireland by the Sister in-law.
Appearance:
Beautiful thick foamy egg-shell tanned/khaki head. Thick and foamy. Beer is jet black, with only a faint hue of Rby Red peeking out the bottom of the glass. It's a beautiful stout.
Aroma: Dark bitter roasted malt, with a sweet ripe almost plum like note in there too. Notes of bitter dark chocolate, and hints of a vanilla undertone. There's a slight grassy hop to the nose as well. Smells inviting, refreshing and delicious.
Taste: Sweet syrupy malt, almost caramel or toffee. Refreshing bitterness throughout the middle and the end of the sip. Slightly earthy.
Feel: A little thin, but highly drinkable. Low-medium body, not massively carbonated. Less carbonated than a Aussie or European or American adjunct lager, more carbonated than the Guiness Nitro Stout. Smooth a d easy drinking.
Overall: Maybe I had a bad batch on tap the other day, but I feel like the Extra Stout is nicer overall than the Draught. Draught and the Nitro is nice, but this just drinks better in every aspect.

Nicked from the Father-in-Law's fridge in January 2023. Drunk in May that year.
L: Ruby black and impenetrable to light, with a fluffy, extremely long-lasting, mocha-coloured head that looks a lot like a yeast krauzen on top of a batch of fermenting beer. Very pretty beer.
S: Cola, red berries, brown sugar, creamy malt. Smells almost exactly as I imagined it.
T: Taste is dominated by a roasty, almost astringent bitterness that finishes very dry in the mouth. There are cola and red berries as per the nose and a sweet toffee and caramel note in the body. After the swallow everything comes to an abrupt halt and then a sweet hit of cola and some medicinal bitter notes come in, with that last medicinal note hanging on after all is gone. Even with that slightly odd finish, this is extremely moreish and a challenge not to down in one long, luxurious pull.
M: Mouthfeel is soft and mildly carbonated. It has more life than its famous sibling, but only just. Regardless, it suits the beer well.
O: This is an excellent sessionable beer that would be almost too easy to down in bulk. No wonder the Irish drink this like it's water!
Cheers!

750ml brown glass bottle with pry-off crown cap cost ~$10 AUD at a beer store in Cairns, Australia. 6% ABV.
APPEARANCE: Head is the usual pale khaki-tan I know and love in every other Guinness Stout (save for Draught, which is brighter and creamier from the nitro). Head retention is good - about 4 minutes. Body is a cola black with deep auburn hues. Looks a bit thinner than the body I remember in other countries' Extra Stouts, but it's appealing.
Looks right for the style, to be sure, but doesn't dazzle.
AROMA: Despite my best efforts, through my hyposmia I don't detect anything.
TASTE: Chocolate cake, arresting acrid bitterness - though I don't know from what...roast, maybe?, gooey malted milk balls, scintilla of licorice, charred black patent malt, warm toffee, chocolate malt. Surprisingly imbalanced...this doesn't have the perfect marriage of roasted barley to malt sweetness I'm used to in Guinness Extra Stout, and tastes worst than every other countries' iteration I've tried to date.
Saccharine and sludgy texturally, rendering it a bit of a chore to drink (never thought I'd say that about a Guinness product).
OVERALL: Is it Lion's oversight of brewing this that is the problem? Did I get a bad/old bottle? I couldn't have imagined this would taste so different from the Extra Stout I've known and loved, including the Singaporean, Indonesian, American, and Irish versions. So sweet and sludgy it borders on undrinkable, and the injection of arresting acrid bitterness doesn't help it by any stretch.
D+ / NOT RECOMMENDED

I like this one. I can only enjoy a guiness draft off tap, when it comes to a bottle I prefer the extra stout.
This is the one obviously available in Australia. Has the unmistakable Guinness toffee/burnt caramel flavour and has a lot more kick in it ABV wise than draught.
The downside is price, it probably costs more than it should but as mentioned when I’ve got a hankering for some Guinness and I can’t get to a pub for some proper draught this one does quite nicely.
750ml long neck bottle.
Most bottleshops it lines up against Coopers Extra Stout as the standard stout options before you launch into craft offerings. I think I prefer this, with the Coopers a little overrated by patriotic Australian drinkers on beer advocate. But each to his/her own!!!

I've had this beer in its other incarnations but I'm not sure of the value of comparisons. They are all a bit different. As one would expect. A beer brewed in Australia is not going to be the same beer as its sibling brewed in Ireland.
It is worth comparing to the other local Australian stouts, particularly the Coopers and the Southwark offering. In a nutshell, this is not as good as either of them.
It does pour a decent head, but it doesn't last long. Leaves ample lacing. Has a fairly thin mouth feel, and the 6% alcohol content aside, is more like an ordinary porter than its rivals.
The usual burnt toffee and caramel flavours you'd expect of a patent black malt. Has a curious lemon tang indicating something different going on with the hops to Coopers or Southwark. It's quite pleasant, tho I don't recall it in the other Guinness versions I've had, possibly because the more robust mouthfeel in those beers masked it.
It's a good beer but not great. It doesn't deserve the premium price tag locally, but I guess it's a Veblen Good and that perversely helps to make the sale to its target demographic.

This is brewed under licence in Australia. The description here suggests that it is brewed by Guinness Ireland, which is not correct. L. Dark brown/black from 750 ml bottle into pint glass. Inch light tan head that fades quickly to some froth and lacing. S. Not much. Some smoke and blackened grain. T. Smoke and blackened grain. Dry finish. Not getting any of the sweetness or chocolate that others note. F. Not a lot of impression, acceptable. O. I would prefer to drink this to not drinking a Guinness related product and the 6% abv is appreciated. Acceptable stout.
