From an 11.2 oz bottle with cryptic lot stamp into my Sam Adams glass (thanks, guys!). Vigorous pour yields a meager half-finger of whitish tan foam that quickly fades to a thin cap and collar that stick around until the bottom of the glass. Color is very dark brown; vigorous carbonation streams are faintly evident, explaining the lasting thin lacing. Nose of relatively faint toasted barley and sweet malt, mild butter and nuts, no hops. In the mouth, more toasted barley and a hint of bitter hops at the end. No complexity to speak of. Mouth is nicely crisp and satisfying, wet and quenching. Not a bad drinker… or “session brew.”
Overall: A sessionable “dark beer” that I wouldn’t turn down if offered. Nothing to bring me back for more, just another tick on the list as far as I’m concerned.
