12 oz bottle into Spaten Optimator dimpled mug
A - Pours with about two fingers of dark tan foam. Beer is a very dark brown and sucks up all nearby light particles. Patchy but present head retention.
S - A little flat, but features roasted malt. Something in the background that reminds me of bleach. Some nuttiness as it warms.
T - Tastes like roasted barley. More on the husk side of the spectrum. Very little sweetness. Dry and bready. Reminds me of sparkling water with barley flavor added.
M - A little thin, a little over carbonated.
O - Too much like fizzy barley water, for me. If you like the plain, bready maltiness of some Belgian Dubbels and Biere de Gardes, this could appeal to you. That sounds snarky, but it is meant sincerely. Also worth trying for fans of Newcastle. You never know when the magic will strike, right?
