Medium to big light brown head settles into a nice lacing above a clear very dark reddish brown colored beer.

Light to faint aroma of dark roasted coffee malts, licorice, maybe burnt grains.

A light roasted grain malt taste, maybe a hint of the coffee from the aroma but really not much coming through with this beer.

A light dry aftertaste with any lingering tastes on this medium bodied beer.

I was kinda disappointed with this beer, when I saw that Guinness had Guinness Black Lager I had to try it. I guess Guinness's regular stout is kind of the measuring stick for anyone trying to make a stout and was kind of hoping that that would ring true for this as well. Guess not.

Poured into my Samuel Adams Pint Glass at 45 degrees.

Appearance: A small 3/4 finger head that is light tan, frothy, creamy, and has poor retention. The color of the beer is dark brown, similar to used motor oil and opaque.

Nose: A dark roasted malt with coffee, caramel, and chocolate notes.

Taste: A dark rich roasted malt with coffee, caramel, and notes of chocolate. A subtle hint of hops citrus, and a note of wood.

The mouth feel of the beer carbonated, little slick, and touch astringent.

Overall: The body of the beer is medium and the finish is medium as well. What to think about this beer is the question. Well it is not great nor is it bad. Guinness original is much better offering. I find this one a tad watery for my liking. Good beer and easy to drink.

Maybe it's my aging taster.
Poured a clear dark almost black color.
Created a foamy short lived head.
No nose that I could detect.
Tiny flavor. I could detect some faint hops and a bit of yeast but when's all said 'n' done--- kind of like club soda with a nudge.
I guess this beer would be an OK hot weather thirst quencher-- where you want to down something cold and wet.

I don't think I'll indulge this one again.
Ho hum.

A: Dark but yet fairly clear. Carb is lively and head is about 1/4 but decipates fast

S: Loads of coffee but more on the burned coffee

T: Burned coffee all over. Actually, more like burned bottom of the bot. Sort of like when you burn sauce or noodles.

M: Carb is hight, but the burned flavour is just too much

O: Would never buy this again. I was drinking this with a spicy curry and it made my food taste bad. I could not believe how burned the beer tasted.

look: 3.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 3 | feel: 3 | overall: 3.5

Appearance: Black, no red highlights. Head does not last and when it is present it is very bubbly. It can be swirled back into place but does not last.

Aroma: Roasted malt, caramel, coffee, rather clean in the aroma, not esters.

Taste: Roasted coffee, very clean in its finish, not all that complex.

Mouthfeel: Light, somewhat watery and thin in body.

Overall: A nice beer to try if you are just getting into darker beers. However, it lacks complexity. Refreshing roastedness and clean finish.

Typical Guiness foamy head and deep brown black body.excellent lacing. Roasted malts, hint of vanilla, cream and milk aroma. Flavor is also very similar to typical Irish stout Guiness with light roasted malt, lager yeast and cream. Medium
To thick body and moderate carbonation. Not that much different from the Irish stout.

12oz Bottle from CJ's Potsdam NY for 1.75$

Appearance - Dark brown colour with an above average size fizzy beige/light brown coloured head. It's hard to make out the level of carbonation and there is some fair lacing. The head lasted for around 4 minutes.

Smell - Malts, chocolate, coffee, grains, metallic

Taste & Mouth - There is an above average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, light coffee, and a hint of chocolate. There is also some corn/grains and some /roasted/smokey/metallic notes. It ends with a grainy bitter aftertaste.

Overall - Drinkable but nothing groundbreaking by any means. It has a decent amount of bitterness at the end, but it's pretty basic tasting other than that. I wouldn't buy it again, but I wouldn't turn one away if offered.
