Though it looked amazing in my glass and smelled wonderful, the taste was average at best and it had the consistency of water. I have yet to have a good glass of Guinness here in the States, hopefully I will be proven wrong if I ever go to the Emerald Isle.

A single bottle purchased at Whole Foods poured into a pint glass.
Appearance: About the same shade as regular Guinness, but the head is pretty small and a little dark for black lager. Minimal lacing.
Smell: At first it's a little skunky, but it gets better after it's settled. Some hops up front resemble catnip, and the grain malt reminds me of oatmeal.
Taste: A review I read a long time ago said this was like Intro to Guinness, and I kind of have to agree. It's like the Guinness flavor profile, but with lower quality grain and made to resemble schwarzbier a little. Not terrible, but it's no surprise that this is what they chose to mass market. Inoffensive to those saps who can't handle a stout.
Mouthfeel: Restrained carbonation and a clean lager feel. Not as heavy as its top-fermenting cousin.
Overall: Meh, about what you'd expect. It's Guinness minus anything distinguishing.

I absolutely love Guinness, as well as the Foreign Extra, and I think this is a great beer. It was getting so much hate that I decided to create an account and do this as my first review. It is very refreshing and goes down great. Not much smell, but great taste and after-taste, and easy to put down if you are looking for something lighter than Guinness.
