Poured from an 11.2 oz. bottle into a Three Heads Brewing pint glass:

A-Jet Black, little to no head

S-Some roast and malt, but not much

T-bland, disappointing, a bit of roast and not much else

M-lots of carbonation, almost soda-like

O-pretty ordinary, if its trying to be a schwarzbier, it misses the mark, wouldn't recommend

A dark reddish brown body, rather opaque, with a half-finger tan head.

Roasted malts with cocoa notes in the aroma.

Taste is okay. Roasted grains with some husk astringency (not bad, but noticeable). A slight bitterness at the finish.

Mouthfeel is smooth and medium bodied. Clean with a slight sweetness.

An okay black lager, well-balanced with what flavors are there. Certainly drinkable, but I would rather go with a Full Sail Session Black or McSorely Irish Black Lager if given the option for a black lager. If I want a dark Guinness product, one of the stouts would be more to my liking.

A: black with a thin tan head.

S: Some faint roasted malt, bittersweet chocolate and some coffee.

T: It does taste a whole lot like a lager. Very light and smooth taste with some light flavors of roasted malt and a dry finish with a hint of coffee. Not particularly offensive but nothing I'd go out of my way for.

Aroma: Lager yeast with slight sulfur. Very faint hints of roasted grains.
Appearance: Very dark brown, a rocky head that collapses quickly, but the small amount of foam is very clingy. Garnet highlights.
Flavor: clean roasted malt with very faint coffee flavor. The flavor is quite dry and finishes quickly with low bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Medium-low carbonation, thin body
Overall Impression: Not quite a schwarzbier, more like thin stout fermented with lager yeast.
Comments: Dry and very drinkable this beer is a good introduction to the dark side for regular lager drinkers when they want to try the deep end of the pool.

Pours dark black with a small cap of light beige head that settles leaving some sticky lace.

The aroma has a mostly sweet malts with a little bit of floral hops in the background. True to form with Guiness this seems a bit weak and underwhelming. The pallet delivers some dark rich malt flavors with a little bit of a floral and bitter hop finish. Not bad at all.

The body is medium with good carbonation. Overall this one is not bad but I will always choose something else.

As a Guinness lover, I was very disappointed with the Black Lager. I really wanted to like it but couldn't. Tried it cold & room temperture;and, with & without food. When poured, it didn't have the cascade; it didn't have the rich smell nor did it have the Guinness Taste. It sort of reminded me of what one would have if you added water to the Stout. And the price - not worth it.
