A: 3 finger khaki to mocha head. Very tight small bubbles creating a luscious pillowy head. Lacing nicely around edge of glass. Carbonation bubbles collect on bottom of the glass. Black in color although light shines through barely emanating a deep amber color. Brown along bottom edge of glass when illuminated.

S: roast, coffee, bread, toast, smells like my irish dry stout homebrew and burnt.

T: tastes roasty but not drying, creaminess at the end, bread, english ale yeast. No coffee or chocolate.

M: thick and chewy. Nicely carbed. Sweet.

O: Not as good as Guinness Draught. It looses coffee and chocolate flavors for burnt and roastiness. Not a bad beer just not one I'd buy over the regular draught offering. Would drink if offered one though.

Black with reddish highlights and a fluffy tan cap. Decent head retention and lots of clingy lacing. Mild aroma with just a hint of roast, green grapes and dry maltiness. Mostly the same in the flavour, with low bitterness faint chocolate. I'm just not a fan of how the roast and malt character clashes with the grapey fruitiness. Light bodied with plenty of carbonation. This is pretty middle of the road for me. I won't look for it again though due to the odd combination of flavours.

Malty aroma has a smoky undertone and a firm yeasty note. It pours an opaque dark-chocolate brown with a thick, frothy, light tan head. Malty, smoky flavor has hints of molasses, licorice and coffee. Texture, unfortunately, seems to be on the thin side, though it has a good fizz. OK, but their classic stout is still the best. On tap.

If you know what a black lager is, and what characteristics it is supposed to have, this is pretty much a perfect representation.

A black lager is supposed to be lighter in mouthfeel (high drinkability and refreshing), with a stout-like sweet, roasted-malt taste. This is what Guinness's black lager is. It is a little light in color for a black lager, but that is the only deficiency. It has a very not heavy mouthfeel (very different than Guinness stouts, as it should be). It has a very strong roasted malt taste with nodes of sweetness from the converted starches.

If you like black lager, drink this.

A - slightly dark, somewhat transparent, no much of a foamy head

S - very slight, not what I expected from Guiness

T - Ok, but it seems as if this beer is trying to figure out if it wants to be a light lager, or medium ale. Sort of in between and not really either. Wasn't very impressive

M - light

O - not Guinness' best effort. It's not a terrible beer, but I wouldn't purchase again

Dumb Euro bottle that jips me out of .8 ounces. I did a bit of online research to figure out the bottling code, but no luck. Poured into a pint glass.

Fairly hard pour gives a towering mocha head, but I look over after writing that first paragraph and it's gone. A tiny bit of light shows through as red, but otherwise the beer is all black. Aroma is roasted malt, but there's almost a skunkiness too.

Wow, this is one of the thinnest beers I can remember- both in flavor and mouthfeel. Only the carbonation keeps it from feeling like water, and it just doesn't taste like much. Bone dry with some tiny roasty hints, but the taste is so absent I wonder if artificial coloring was added.

This is a big miss for me.
