Also a St. Patty's Day beer. 12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Review taken from shorthand notes.

Appearance: Jet black body with hints of ruby red when held to the light. The body is tapped by a respectable two-finger head of thick tan foam that sticks around for a while and leaves dangling chunks of lacing in its wake. Very attractive looking beer.

Smell: Smells mostly good. Whiffs of black coffee, dark chocolate, and roasted malt hit the nose at first, followed by some floral hops and a weird tinge of funky yeast and a slightly metallic bit. Were it not for the slight sourness on the end, this would easily be a 4 or 5. This smells like a pretty typical stout, though.

Taste: The front of the palate is hit with a hearty dose of roasted malt which then give way to melded flavors of black coffee and dark chocolate, all leading up to a funky, sour bite of floral hops and yeast on the back of the palate. This was kind of weird at first, especially with the finish, but it grows on you after a while. A very solid Irish stout, and aside from that weird finish, this is enjoyable.

Mouthfeel: Big dry finish on this one (I guess that's why it called a Dry Stout?) and a full, robust mouthfeel. This is more carbonated compared to the Draught version, so the kick of carbonation enhances the flavors of the beer as it passes down the palate. Thick, almost chewy body.

Overall: Much better than the Draught version, but it still took me a while to get used to that sour, dry finish. Otherwise, a very enjoyable beer. This is the real Guinness, in my opinion.

L - dark brown with some ruby hues when held to a light; huge, rocky light brown head slowly fades leaving all kinds of lacing
S - creamy, roasty, chocolate
T - big bitter roasted barley flavor, cream, dark chocolate
F - smooth, creamy, dry and astringent finish
O - it's been awhile since I've had this one, but it was nice to come back to.

One of the go to stouts for me when Sierra Nevada Stout is not available. Good bitter, roasted flavors are prevalent with a nice carbonation and lacing in the glass. I dont think the aroma does the look and taste justice. Although the nose isn't bad, it could be better as it just does not stick out to me as being strong enough.

A- Black with mahogany hues around the edges. Poured a thick 3 finger head. Great lacing.

S- Sweet. The first thing that came to mind was grape kool-aid. Behind that, there's some roasted malt and a touch of coffee.

T- Dark fruits and sweetness up front. After that, it is mostly dominated by roasted malts. Some subtle notes of caramel, chocolate, and light citrus/earthy hops in there, too. Finish is roasty with some bitterness and big char.

M- Medium light body. Drying with an almost puckering bitterness.

O- I'm not the biggest fan of this one, but it does have its own unique place in how this obsession got started for me. I like it much more than the first time I had it, but I still find it too overpowering in char and bitterness.

A dark heavy feeling beer. I liked it but it doesn't smell very good, but taste makes up for it. Not to bitter not to sweet a great mixture! Cost compared to beers of equal stature is comparable at $8.49 a six pack. Not a beer I would buy frequently, but defiantly a worthy beer of taste.
