Very dark. Pitch black; even when illuminated. The head is thick, tan and creamy. Lace is all over the glass. This is what you want a stout to look like. You can watch the head grow as the bubbles make their way both up AND down the glass. You really cannot beat the presentation of a Guinness.
Very light roast in the nose. It actually smells sweet with a light mix of charcoal and roasted malt.
A good medium body. The flavors are roasted and burnt. There is some nondescript sweetness in the middle, followed by more burnt flavors, grain, some bitter hops, and a dry finish. It's a pretty easy beer to drink but I have some other stouts in the fridge and will follow this with one of those.
