Guinness Extra Stout, purchased and consumed in Japan eleven months before its freshness date, brewing origin is unknown however.
Pours a very dark brown with a tan head, moderate carbonation, ubiquitous lacing. Looks pretty enticing!
Not too much is given away as far as aroma is concerned. Some milky/lactose notes, not sure if I'm imagining them but it smells like a warm creamy milk stout. I didn't think this one had milk in it but maybe I'm associating the wrong aroma. Malt smells are not too noticeable, may be served too cold, but it's a nice temperature to drink it at right now. Aroma could be improved by warming up but I don't think there's too much there to expand on.
Tastes a bit sharp for a stout, bitter piquant hops on the palate, surprisingly fresh and biting. Toasty malt, a vegemite-like yeastiness and a hint of alcohol there too (surprising for a 5% brew). A little bit too coarse for my liking, now that I think about it; but hey, it's really a macro, so it's pretty good for what it is.
Mouthfeel is astringent and rough, but it's easy to drink because it's not too creamy, so they balance each other out. Overall, yes I'll drink it again, it's fucking Guinness, and yes I did this just to review this brew once and for all. As far as the beer market in Japan goes - not a bad brew at all.
My neighbour insists on drinking it warm, and from the bottle. "Warm" is relative and can be excused, but what do you get out of it from drinking straight from the bottle? But he's a belligerent Derryman so what are you gonna do.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a 14 oz "pint" glass. Pours pitch black with a small of white head that disappears very quickly. Smells of raisins with very slight grape and coffee. Tastes of grapes with a bit of coffee, a bit of a different combination. Beer is light bodied and heavily carbonated, good finish. Overall an above average beer.
