Visuals: This is where Guiness always gets me. They put on a show like no other in the big beer business. No matter the eventual outcome, one look at a tall glass full of this freshly poured stout is enough to make any mouth water. Pitch black and that exquisite velvety head make the perfect combination of perennial good looks.
Smells like... well Guiness, really. A dark stout not heavily leaning one one single aspect, it simply smells dark and thoughtful, if that's possible.
The taste is where Extra Stout rises above its "Draught" brethren and almost delivers on its sublime visuals. Almost is the key word. Containing the whispered hints of many flavors it doesn't quite give up, the beer simply vanishes from memory when the glass is empty; thankfully the hazy recurrent thought is "good" despite the llack of true distinction. Hint of coffee here, whisp of smoke there - it's too streamlined for its own good.
Mouthfeel is as expected after reading the above statements. It's smooth yet textured, thick enough to fill and coat the palette yet easily downed like (nearly) a light American beer. This is where the mainstream flirtation comes to full fruition. It's "thick" and chewy but without any of the grit, lacking an individual character.
This is the hearty beer your Bud Light friends brag about.
But it's still the best damn offering you're likely to find at a random gas station or convenience store, and for that it deserves applause.

A proper Guinness is never wrong at any given moment, and the bottled version of this I got on my local pub was very good.
I think that this is a bit tastier than the regular Guinness Draught 4,2 ABV. But still I would very much like to try this on tap and not in a bottle.
