A - Pours very dark brown, almost black. Forms a decent finger of light brown creamy head. Good head retention, minimal lacing.
S - A decent amount of malt, alcohol and prune.
T - Bitter malt, lightly sweet dark fruit and light touches of dark chocolate. Medium/full body. Decently creamy mouthfeel.
O - A decent stout, a good "fallback" beer when you're at a small selection bar.
V - Medium value.

12 oz. bottle poured into nonic
printed on bottle:
L423NE2
1309

L: almost black amber, clear up to light ... very clear, in fact; big 1-inch-plus sticky head of tan/brown foam; it's lacing in a cool way; keeps a thick collar and half a skin of foam; more stick off the head than lacing on the way down

S: sour roasted grain; chocolate; roasted malt with corn ... the sour has to be from the rye, it's a definite twang; sweet; molasses

T: chocolate milk with a rye tart/sour twang ... it's very chocolately, much more so than I remember; the rye is easy to detect, it's really pervasive but doesn't hurt the chocolate/mocha

F: classic drinkable midweight ... has a little heft but very light for the amount of flavor; loads of carbonation

O: how could I wait so long to revisit this? I probably haven't had a Guinness in 10 years ... and after diving into the craft beer world, trying close to 300 beers and running through a few handfuls of big stouts, this might be the best non-barrel-aged stout I've tried. it's so good! honestly like chocolate milk, so easy to drink. the rye does offer it a bit of dryness/bitterness ... not sour but kind of ... a bit of something different, tart inside the big sweet malt presence

i'll be drinking this year round now that I'm back on it
