The original Guinness is my baseline for stouts. Pours dark to the point of blackness, with a smooth creamy head that gives off smells of coco, coffee and molasses. Taste is smooth and sweet, but not overly so.

Just had the original Guinness for the very first time and was quite impressed. Here goes:

A: Very different from the Guinness Draught. Not as creamy-looking, but still pours a one inch head that leaves a ton of lacing. Also, the beer is pitch black. Can't really ask for more in terms of appearance. 4.5/5.0

S: Much better than than the Draught. Light coffee notes giving way to a lot of brown sugar and molasses. Very, very good. These notes are lighter than in a lot of American stouts, but they're still quite good. 4.5/5.0

T: Light, but still quite superb. Very sweet brown sugar, caramel, and toffee that give way to a robust coffee background that lingers on the tongue long after consumption. Baker's yeast and a mild smattering of hops are apparent as well. Overall, this beer is far, far better than the Draught. 4.5/5.0

M: Mouthfeel is still somewhat watery, though, but it's still more robust than the Guinness Draught. However, this isn't saying much overall. 3.5/5.0

O: A very solid Irish stout. 4.25/5.00

Appearance – Black in the glass with a hint of red when held to the light. Boasted a three finger foam head that was very long lasting and left really good lacing.

Smell – Boozy aroma with notes of toffee, treacle, coffee and dark coco.

Taste – follows the smell rather well. Bitter sweet, good roasted grain taste, bitter malts treacle and burnt toffee hops with a sharp bitter coffee and coco after taste.

Mouthfeel – Great boozy warmth, nice and full in the mouth with medium body. Nicely coating the throat.

Overall – Deeper and much more complex than the draught beefier mouth feel as well. This is a rather good Stout with great flavour and nice warmth. I will default to Extra stout rather than draught when possible.
