Appearance: Pale golden straw.
Smell: Honey, floral, biscuit, citrus.
Taste: Same as smell.

It's not bad. The smell and taste are remarkably identical. The smell is actually very inviting. The citrus, honey, and biscuit are great draws. I wouldn't get this again unless it came in a sampler pack, bit wouldn't complain about drinking another either.

Smithwick's Pale Ale

Notes: Deep gold in color. Frothy 1-fingered head holds well. Average lacing. Floral and fruity in the nose. Flavor: Fruity and floral. Sweetish grainy malt - honeyish. Grassy, herbal hops. Median bitterness. Finishes dryish with grassy, herbal and floral notes. Average, but well-made. Pale ale? Yes. That adds perspective... good example of the English style. Worth trying.

Tarnished yellow in color with a slightly hazy, viscous appearance. Poured with a thick, fizzy white foam that quickly reduced to a wispy cap. Earthy, bready malt aroma followed by light herbal and slightly spicy hop notes. This needed to warm up considerably to allow the aromas show. Medium bodied, creamy smooth feel down the middle with tangy hop bitterness around the edges. Bready malt flavor up front followed by herbal hops and a spicy hop bite through the middle. Buttery bready malt, herbal hop and lemon zest notes at the end. Finished crisp and incredibly dry. Possibly the driest beer I've ever tried.

Smithwicks Pale Ale pours a straw like golden color, with a nice long lasting head. There is a very pale skunk aroma. The taste is very light, pale malty flavors, skunk notes, and very "chemically." Not very good flavors, and light (lucky). Overall it looks nice, but tastes like a adjunct. There is worse out there.

Smithwick's Pale Ale from Guinness pours out a light amber color. This Brew has a nice white head that sticks around. The smell is ok ,nothing bad at all. There is a lot flavor to this brew, but nothing bad at all. The beer itself goes down smooth. It is also really refreshing and enjoyable to drink. This brew reminds me of an American style brew. I will be buying this brew again.

4.5% ABV. "Premium European style beer, craft brewed with pale ale malt and aromatic hops." Reviewed as a European pale ale. 500ml aluminum can with uninteresting label acquired as part of a Guinness variety box and served into a conical Pinthouse Pizza pint glass in low altitude Austin, Texas. Reviewed live. Expectations are above average given the brewery.

Served cold - straight from me fridge. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

A: No bubble show forms as it's poured.

Pours a two finger wide head of white colour. Nice creaminess and thickness. Good frothiness.

Body colour is a transparent translucent pale copper of average vibrance. Excellent clarity. Clean; floating yeast particles or sediment is visible. Inconsistent spotty lacing clings to the sides of the glass as the head recedes. Head retention is nice - about 4 minutes.

Overall, it's a generally appealing appearance for a beer in this style, but it's far from unique or special. There are no overt flaws here.

Sm: My broken nose picks up nothing aside from some faint floral hop character and buttery malts. All apologies, lads. A very subdued aroma.

T/Mf: Has a fantastically creamy mouthfeel. It's also slightly buttery, which works well for this flavour profile. Mild floral hop character, buttery pale malts, a kiss of bread, and some faint caramel. I also pick up some corn adjunct mixed with some graininess.

Depth of flavour is quite low; this is a shallow beer. Below average duration and intensity of flavour. It's nicely balanced though, and has some nice flavour. Quite a cohesive build. Lacks intricacy, nuance, complexity, and subtlety, but I do like it for what it is. Just a simple sessionable pale ale with some nice flavours.

Light in body. There's not much weight on the palate, which keeps it refreshing. Smooth and wet. Good approachable presence on the palate.

Not oily, astringent, gushed, hot, or boozy.

Dr: Extremely drinkable. A sessionable pale ale from Guinness. It's far from their finest offering, but it's an easy drinking brew and I find it refreshing. I wouldn't recommend it to friends or go out of my way to buy it again, but it's a nice addition to the Guinness variety box.

C+

To compare this Pale ale to other pale ales is kinda secondary to how it tastes. Coming from Ireland if you drink ale, you drink Smickwicks. One of the reasons I got into brewing was to try to create a beer that tasted like Smithwicks. I have traveled widely over the years and have found that the ruby red ale that has all those roasted, fruity notes and just the right amount of effervescence is not a common beer, and the reason for this is the yeast. I live about 10 miles from the brewery but their secret is beyond grasp. (Much to my frustratation!) On the by & by if drinking Smithwicks Ale draught, ask for a Guiness head....Creamy...mmmmh!

Smithwick's Pale ale has an almost larger-ist look to it when poured, Its clear, light in colour compared to a lot of other English type pale ales I have tried, and has a fine head that settles but keeps good lacing on the sides.

The aroma is fresh! citrus and very hoppy. Smells like good beer on a summer day. (Roll on the amarillo hops!)

The taste does not disappoint, so long as you like the aroma because the taste remarkably similar. The after taste, is like a concentrated dose of what you've been smelling but still has that underlying smithwick's taste.(probably something to do with Diacetyl.)

I enjoyed this beer and have found it to be a good summer day beer, and a good way to get Larger drinkers to try ale and enjoy it. .To me it tastes clean, crisp and refreshing, a good beer that taste like more!

Overall wasn't too bad the beer smelled of honey and citrus and in my opinion was better than the taste. The taste seemed very watered down to me however the flavors of citrus and honey still came through. Maybe this was just the can I had but I don't think that I would buy it again. That being said if it was given to me then I would definitely drink it again however I would like to try it from a bottle next time.
