From the 11.2 oz bottle into a pint glass, it's an extremely dark brown "pitch brown" color with virtually no light penetration. Large brown pillowy creamy head that stays solid, fading only very slowly. Great looking brew. Nose of burnt malt, powdery chocolate. Slight buttery diacetyl note. In the mouth, more toasted malt, milk chocolate and hits of diacetyl, counterpoised by bitter dry hops. Dry nutty coffee finish. Mouth is milky smooth and semi-viscous; creamy, yet with crisp carbonation. Delicious. Drinkability is exceptional; it's tasty, smooth, and the 7.5% ABV is well masked. This beer is complex and enjoyable.
Overall: A very pleasant surprise, definitely not the easygoing Guinness which I enjoy well enough; this one is one I will actively seek out again--soon.
