Thin light tan head. Black but has a cloudy, heavy look to it. Low carbonation. Little lacing.
Robust fruity aroma. Lots of fermentation character there. Seems to overpower the roast and coffe from the dark malts. Prunes and other dark fruits play a role. Ok but a bit underwhelming.
Big juicy malt and dark fruit character. Lots of prune juice and fermentation stuff happening. Nice but it overpowers any dark malt roast or dryness. Disappointing really.

Re-review off the FES bottles distributed to the US in October 2010. I've left my original review text below.
A: Pours a pitch black body with a finger of light mocha foam. It retains well and leaves nice lace down the sides of the glass.
S: Dominated by roasted grain; its strength brings a slight lactic twang to the table. I find a little chocolate, but black coffee is stronger. As it warms, a hint of dark fruit emerges.
T: Roasted malt with a slightly sour (lactic) component that I pick up from roasted grain content. A hint of chocolate. Coffee bitterness is strong, as is a generous earthy / medicinal bitterness that lingers well into the aftertaste. I pick up a smattering of dark fruit that reminds me of my experience with this beer in Ireland, but it is quite obviously not the same recipe.
M: Medium-full bodied. Carbonation is ample, maybe a tad high. Long-lasting, lingering bitterness (almost medicinal and aspirin-like) that reflects the higher hop content of this beer. Not a fan.
D: This is like the normal Guinness, but less watered down. It doesn't have the quad-like qualities I noted in the Irish version purchased at the brewery. WTF, what a disappointment.
Room-temperature bottle into a glass. Purchased at the Guinness Brewery in Dublin. [4.5 / 4.5 / 4.0 / 4.0 / 4.0 => 4.2, A-]
A: Like the brewery's signature beer, pours a nearly impenetrable body, with a rubyish tint to it when held against the light. The head is a dark tan color with large bubbles; retention is surprisingly good for a beer of this ABV, and it deposits sticky lace down the sides of the glass.
S: Roasted malt, surprisingly strong plums and dark fruits (reminds me of a Belgian quad in its intensity, almost), coffee, dark chocolate, brown sugar, and caramel. Very aromatic and pleasant in the nose.
T: Follows the bouquet to a T. Fantastic dark fruit up front, leaning toward plums and figs. The mid-taste is dark sugar, caramel, and chocolate. The flavor gets roastier and coffee-like in the end, with a lightly dry finish and a restrained, residual bitterness. Well-crafted.
M: Full-bodied, moderate carbonation. Starts off sweet but finishes on the drier side, which I find impressive. A small warming effect from the ABV.
D: I'd prefer to have this over the regular Guinness, but it's not available in the States. Alas.

A: The pour is almost black in color with a finger of dense khaki head.
S: First thought that comes to mind is barbecue. Smells like roast and fire. However, there's an odd buttery quality to it. Sweet malt and graham cracker follow these strange aromas. A lot of dark fruits, especially prunes.
T: Very heavy on the roasted malts, almost smokey in flavor. Somewhat bitter as a result of this. Only a light sweetness to this one and not really much of the dark fruit that was present in the aroma.
M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation.
O: Not sure what all the commotion was about with this. I didn't like this at all.

Poured from 12oz bottle.
A- Pours a dark black color. One and a half finger light tan head that shows medium retention. Head dies to a cap over the beer. Ringy and spotty lacing left on the glass after each sip.
S- Grainy aromas in the front of this. Some light roasted malts and hints of chocolate throughout the nose. There is a light alomost sourness that clings to the grain like hints. Not the biggest fan of the aroma but as it warms the grains kind of dies out and it smells more like cold coffee.
T- Roasted malts in the front of the beer with a slight sourness. There is a light chocolate note in the middle of this along with a dose of black coffee like flavor. There is a bitterness in the backing of this along with a asprin like ending in this beer. Don't know what to think of the beer flavor wise.
M- Medium mouthfeel. Carbonation is good for the stlye. Big coffee notes left on the palate. Medicinal flavor along with a earthy taste left long into the aftertaste. The flavors are rich and blended kind of well. Roasted grains and chocolate are the dominate flavors. Medium drying on the palate from the alcohol.
D- This beer is ok but I expected a little more than what I tasted. Guinness really isn't my thing and this one just proves it more and more. I didn't mind it but it's not the thing I expected it with all the hype from it.

the 640ml bottle says "brewed under license for diageo greater china limited" it also clearly states that alcohol is only 5% but clearly says guinness foreign extra stout on the bottle
a: pours deep brown with large amounts of off-white foamy head; not nitro so no beautiful casacading effect
s: caramel/toffee with hints of burnt coffee flavor; sweet molasses flavors also very present
t: delicious coffee malts with with syrupy sweet barley presence
m: it is a real shame this one is from the bottle since the carbon instead of nitrous makes the beer too syrupy/cloying and not creamy enough
d: this is some weird asian guinness foreign extra that is not as enjoyable as other guinnesses i have enjoyed in the past; too syrupy sweet to have the staying power of its brethren
