Picture a guiness. Light body. Smooth finish. This beer is not that. It is a hoppy version. With different malt. And an unpleasant boozy afterbreath.

This is a world class beer using an old Irish recipe which has the wort/mash exposed to wild yeasts. This along with the use of high quality barley malts and enough hopping to please an American palate makes this beer a surprise find from the Guinness Brewery which is owned by the Diageo Group (read Smirnoff). The beer is made to transport and because of this cellars very well and even bottle conditions which producing a great Irish stout.

Found on close out and can't translate the date.

Aroma is floral and fruity/boozy, with that signature Guinness roast malt character underlying, and a hint of tobacco.

Flavor is roasty at the base, but notes of raisins and dates add sweetness and complexity, leading to a lightly bitter, ashy finish. Nutty malt surfaces in the aftertaste.

Far more complex malt character than the standard version. The alcohol is slightly fusel, but the dark fruit detracts.

A really good stout, of the mass produced, probably one of the best.

The beer pours a nice foamy tan head that takes a while to dissipate. The beer itself is an obscure The lacing left over is plentiful and looks really nice.

The beer smell is nice and roasty with a bit of dark fruit and caramel note to it. The smell is pretty simple but smells well done.

The beer taste is similar to the smell but a bit stronger. The beer has roasted malt notes with caramel and dark fruit notes to round it off. Additionally, the beer also has a bitter hop flavor as well to make a bit more complex.

The beer mouthfeel is a bit light for a stout. The beer is supposed to be heavy bodied but feels on the lighter side to the point that it feels medium bodied. The carbonation is biting and gives it quite a bit of texture, making it feel like a more thicker foam.

Overall, pretty good beer and well worth drinking if you can find it. This is one of the beers that started me on the path to beer geekdom (before I joined beeradvocate) and is still pretty good after having so money different beers.
