A - I gave this beer a gentle poor and it produced a nice rocky fluffy three finger head. This beer produces great lacing and is pitch black like motor oil. The head is a nice brownish khaki color. Great looking beer.

S - This beer is nice and light on the nose with a nice dark roast creamy smell to it. I get a faint amount of figs and dark fruit. I get a nice chocolate smell on this one as well that seems to be smooth and pleasant throughout.

T - First thing I notice on this one is the dark roast which last a split second. Then I get some of the dark fruit and fig taste along with some nice woody after taste. It lets you know that it is a Guinness beer on the finish that is for sure. I also get some black licorice and anise on it. It seems to change every time I drink it. Hmm. Nice and complex and I cannot detect alcohol on this one at all.

M - Nice full bodied, smooth and lightly carbonated. A bit creamy as well.

O - Very nice beer for anyone who enjoys the regular Guinness but wants to try something on a whole new level. This beer is a great Stout that everyone should give a try at least once. A proper beer for a beer enthusiast. Cheers!

A: you knew this was gonna be pitch black beer with a huge head of dark foam; drapes of lace persist

S: all I really pick up are roasted malt aromas; there's some subtle bitter cocoa, espresso

T: dry and tangy bitter roasted malt beer; deep earthy tones; distant alcohol flavors. There is a back-taste of molasses/dark sugar, but it is just a flash across the palate. In some regards, this beer is like a super-dense creamy black ale. I tend to want a bit more sweetness than this provides, but part of this taste is just part of the style.

M: dense but sharply bitter on the tongue, roasted bitter dark chalk aftertaste

O: Guinness was what I drank whenI was unfamiliar with craft beer, but wanted to seem more sophisticated than everyone else who was drinking Bud; turns out regular Guinness is not that great a beer. Fortunately, there is the Foreign Export/Stout version(s), and it is a face-saver for the most well-known brewery in Dublin. While there are plenty of better stouts, the Guinness Foreign Extra is a good Irish dry stout. If you like craft beer and you've had the (regular) version of the beer, then you must seek this out and have one. It's an important representative in the House of Stouts, and a good beer to be familiar with.

2011 bottle

Pours deep black with reddish hues. Tan head and lacing.

Currents and roasted malts in the nose. Some toffee hints.

Smooth with some warming from the 7.5% alcohol. Noticeable bitterness that blends well with a healthy dose of roasted malts and what seems a dark caramel note. Some prune and currents come through. Chewy malt character and a bigger than average malt bill becomes noticeable.

Very dry finish. The finishes with some acrid notes and a spicy noble bitterness that lingers along with that dark caramel note. This example seems to set the bar for foreign extra stout.

deep, dark and menacing at 7.5%.
pours the obligatory dark guinness color with little head, slight spidery lacing and a thin, tan film over the brew.
smells . . . . like guinness, with something to prove....
tastes . . . . like guinness, but with something else in there. alcohol, maybe? (i once had a 'discussion' with someone over the abv of guinness. he was very surprised to learn the 'regular' guinness was a 4.2%). but even at that low level of abv it has mysterious healing properties. walk in to the pub with an ear ache, head ache, or some other pain, and it mysteriously disappears...
mouthfeel... wonderful. after the beautiful aroma that only guinness can provide, the mouth is awash in deep, dark flavors and excited with the extra stimuli. thick, deep, rich. cant session past a couple of these higher-ended abv's, but that's where something lager-like comes in to focus. i know the guinness lager isnt a great brew, but i really like the style. great follow up to this bounty.
overall, i love this stuff. i keep a couple in the frig for whenever i get tired of the same ole, same ole. not for every night. not for anytime. but every once in a while, these are the prescription for what ails ya. maybe try a back of some good whiskey for a great evening home alone . . . . sorry, i'm a loner.... cant give it all 5's - is there anything in the world which really is? (except for freely given, passionate oral gratitude) but this is one of my tops. salud!

Recommened by Shagtastic, looking forward to it buddy!

A- Head explosion! 2 inches of pitch black beer the rest of my glass full of dark brown head that isn't leaving too quickly

S- I've been smelling this for 3 straght minutes and can't decide what it smells like, other than good. I'm guessing barley? However there are also some chocolate malts and a touch of hops in there

T- Tons of flavor! Chocolate, coffee, hops, asorted dark malts and some barley. Complex and beautiful

M- Little thin but not so much so that it takes away from the overall experience

O- This is awesome and I'm glad Dave talked me into cracking it open tonight!
Cheers!

A: Inky black with that classic rocky tan Guinness head. Retention is excellent and lacing is abundant. Beautiful.

S: Coffee, roast, chocolate, and warm alcohol. There seems to be some acidic sour undertone here that is very nice. Hops aren't too abundant in the aroma.

T: Lots of bitter coffee and dark chocolate up front. I'm getting some hops (mostly bitterness) in the taste. That lovely acidic twang is apparent in here as well. Warming alcohol comes through as it warms.

M: Silky smooth and moderately carbed. Wonderful.

This is one of the best stouts I've ever had. It blows Guinness Extra Stout out of the water. This is going to become a regular in my fridge for sure.
