I picked this bottle up at Wegman's in Mechanicsburg as part of a mix-a-six- poured chilled into my Bass trademark glass.

The beer is an impressive deep brown bordering on black -it is opaque with a thick rocky tan cap which becomes creamy and laces the glass in rings after each swallow. The bead is very small, micro-sized mimicing a nitro pour. The smell is sweet and nutty with a fruit ester from the yeast and slight earthy element that adds to the light berry note in the aroma. the feel is roasty and moderately bitter, but smooth bitterness with moderately high effervescent quality and slightly fuller than medium body with gentle spiciness and subtle sweet accent with an almost minty clean quality and semi dry efffect on the palate.

The flavor has mild char notes which leads to a slightly creamy and mildly sweet malt flavor which is juxtaposed by a moderate spice and bitter hop taste. The stout finishes roasty w/ mild warmth and has dry toasted grain flavors lingering on the palate. A very good beer IMO, maybe not the ultimate example of the style, but suitable for a nice mid-winter quaff. I could enjoy this with shellfish but it really is substantial enough to consume by itself.

I picked this up at Wegman's, enjoyed from a mug.

The color is black as night and opaque with a 3 finger cream mocha head thick lace sticks in a web with fine bead and good retention. The smell is reminiscent of dark sugar and raisins with light rum-like alcohol odor with slight woody nose and hint of mineral with light spice and slight dark cocoa with a hint of of toffee in the background. A moderately full feelig beer with nice smooth texture and moderately highly carbonated with medium Bitterness and roasted character with semi-dry finish and mild sweet undertone.

The Foreign stout has a flavor with dried fruit and currant notes with pine hop taste in the forefront and mild dark chocolate with bitter and light brown sugar elements with subtle spice with a crisp mineral yeast element that adds to the complexity with dry hints of toast and mild caramel malt with light peppery flavors with a gentle hint of hops in the finish with mild alcohol in the taste. Overall I was pleased to try this great beer again, it is a great foreign style stout which may not be the ultimate example, but really drinkable and pretty hiqh in quaffability for the strength!

11.2 ounce bottle from Ireland served in a snifter. As almost anyone reading this already knows, this is a near black brew with a towering, creamy, beige-hued head with very good retention and attractive lacing.

Smell: Sweet caramel and dark roasted barley nose with hops, mild alcohol esters and a hint of coffee.

Taste: Richer than I remember, this has a load of dark, roasted barley with a bit of dark fruit and toffee, a hint of coffee, and a touch of smokey molasses. Eventually, some earthy/herbal hops join in, making for a good sweet/bitter balance.

Mouthfeel: Medium+ body; medium-light carbonation; nicely soft and creamy

O: It's been at least a few years since I've had this, having had a good number of fine stouts from around the world in the meantime. I was pleasantly surprised: this certainly exceeded my expectations. Surprisingly satisfying and flavorful given the standard/common Guinness.

Pours an effervescent ebony with 4 fingers of mocha head. Very good head retention & above average lacing.

S: Roasty malt by the ton, faint dark fruit notes & carob

T: Roasty, slight hints of coffee, charred grain, dryness & woody hops up front. Slight Baker's chocolate notes mix with roastyness as this warms. Finishes dry, roasty & with woody hops

MF: Smooth, medium bodied & nice balance

Crazy drinkability, this seems sessionable, not sure I would have the guts to try. Pretty much as good as I remember if being back in the day...

A: Pours black with a finger tall tan head. Good head retention and moderate lacing.

S: Aromas of dark roasted malts and hints of coffee bitterness.

T: Dark malts, roasted malts, coffee bitterness, and a hint of toffee. Good balance.

M: Medium bodied with moderate to high amounts of carbonation. Dry finish.

O: Nice balance of malt sweetness and coffee bitterness. Easy to drink and quite sessionable.

Very impressive non-nitrogen created head. Leaves plenty of spotty lace. The liquid is near black where no light shines through.

Dark chocolate aroma with a touch of caramel. Mildly sweet and a dab of chalkiness.

Burnt malt flavor with a creamy swallow. Very much like an iced coffee without sugar. I think I detect some alcohol warmth. Not harsh, but still very bitter from the deeply toasted malts.

Pours beautiful jet black color with a khaki tan head forming thick, dimpled biscuit rising texture floating above the rim of my imperial pint glass. Fine speckled lacing coats the glass evenly as the head slowly fades away. Dark roast malts give of bright coffee/dark chocolate with a slight sour mash note. Air of cherry/fruit note in the background with herbal hops going on. Interesting blend of flavors finishes heaviliy roasted malts/burnt charred malt character in the finish, with sour mash bring hints of cherry/tart fruit. Strong earthy/herbal hoppiness meshed within the dark malt profile. I like the way this beer is going down medium bodied sturdy carbonation level, the bitter dark roasts brings some astringency on the palate finishes heavy with dry dark roasts/bittering hops. Drinability overall is very nice, alcohol is well hidden the booze is not overpowering. Well crafted and thought out beefier version of the beloved Guinness. I've heard people talk about Foregin/Export version of Guinness, I'm glad they decided to release this stateside. Excellent rich, robust/hoppy form of Guinness that I truly enjoy and will advocate to others so they don't miss out.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into my Duvel snifter. Brought this bottle back from the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin in June.

a - Pours a very dark brown color with two fingers of tan head and light carbonation evident.

s - Smells of roasted malts, caramel malts, chocolate, and sticky sweet dark fruits.

t - Tastes of dark fruits, sweet fruit, roasted malts, chocolate, and coffee.

m - Medium body and low carbonation. Very easy to drink.

d - Overall a very solid stout that is very drinkable. Not as thick as the Guinness in the US and a bit sweeter, but could definitely have a few of these. Would definitely have again.

A: Pours a very dark brown, almost black with a massive 2.5 finger tan/brown colored head. This slowly dissipated to about one finger of foam that lasted for the rest of the time drinking. Lacing covers the entire glass. Picture perfect.

S: Quite roasty with some bitter chocolate and a little bit of coffee and cream. Very thick aroma, slight alcohol presence at first that is gone by the end.

T: Nice chocolate flavor, both bitter and a little bit of dark. There is some coffee/espresso in the midpalate with a dry finish.

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes dry and sticky. No sign of the slight bit of alcohol from the nose.

O: A very nice beer, one the best from Guinness. Would love for it to be a touch creamier, I can imagine this beer on nitro would be fantastic.

Tasted almost a year ago - from notes that were lost, but recently found.

Pours black with a rich, thick, lasting light-brown head that leaves plenty of lacing. Looks almost like a nitro-pour, but natural. Very beautiful to look at!

The smell is of roasted coffee - a rich dark malt with an earthy tone is robust.

The taste is also robust... Roasted dark malt gives a rich coffee impression, with a touch of chocolate. An earthy undertone and the roast balance the sweetness nicely! Finishes dry.

It has a smooth, full body with a lasting aftertaste.

This is a delicious, full-flavored stout. My favourite Guinness brew so far!

I was excited to find a 4-pack of this at Whole Foods in Alexandria, VA for $9.99.

A: Wow. This looks quite a bit different than the Guinness I am used to seeing. The liquid is a deep, rich, impenetrable black shade. The head is two inches of thick beige head that has long lasting retention. As it gradually subsides, it coats the sides of the tulip glass with sticky lace.

S: The aroma is considerably weaker than one would expect, given the appearance of this stout. Cream, milk chocolate and malt are the primary scents. Honestly, it doesn't smell much different than a regular Guinness.

T: I am a fan of Guinness beer, as it is one of the first craft beers I ever had the pleasure to taste. I would definitely say that the Foreign Export Stout is a better beer than the regular variety so commonly found at the local bar. It is richer

M: Smooth and creamy, but not as much as the regular version. Foreign Export Stout feels more carbonated and a step closer to a double stout.

D: I am really enjoying this beer. If you're a fan of Guinness, you should definitely try this.

thick, opaque, thorughly black appearance, big, rocky, rumbling, cocoa/ tan head, leaving lace, most impressive look for a stout.

Aroma is sweetness, molasses and brown sugar, and that's about it, but rather full with those flavors...

Taste: big, and brimming with thick, viscous, luscious, sweet dark flavors...thick, and slick on the tongue, sleek, silky, dances on the tongue with a light, yet delicious tango...wow, I'm actually feeling the difference, though...it has a little something in the malt, in the yeast,...maybe I need a bottle of the Extra Stout to compare, but it definitely stands above it.

Sweet, but a bit complex, and a rich, delicious thing.
Still on the hunt for the Lagos stuff, but ready to be disillusioned, or at least, understand that it's probably just as good, if not so terribly much better, than this one.

Bought a 4-pack to make Export Stout soup. Had one bottle left over so I decided to drink it. Cryptic code reads L0232GF002 05:37. Served in a CCBW pint glass.

A - Three fingers of creamy tan foam that settles to a thick cap leaving sticky glass-coating lace. Near-black body with a glint of red at the bottom of the glass.

S - Roasted barley, coffee and cream, baker's chocolate, very low sweetness with maybe a hint of caramel in the periphery.

T - Taste has a touch more chocolate sweetness, but it's contrasted with sharp roast espresso and toasted grains. Slightly smokey, dry and mildly bitter finish.

M - Carbonation is moderate, body is medium, and residual stickiness is also medium. Some dry, grainy character in the finish. Obviously it's not as smooth in texture as regular Guinness on nitro. Not obvious alcohol.

D - A solid Export stout. Guinness' second-best offering after the exquisite John Martin version. Extremely drinkable stuff - somewhat ashamed I used most of it for making soup. Oh well, at least I can always buy more for an extremely reasonable price.

12oz bottle into a pint glass. This brew appears black in color with some lighter indications of brown and reddish clarity around the bottom edges of the glass when held to the light. More than a finger of tan cream head appears composed of rather large bubbles. The cap's retention is quite decent and it leaves a leggy amount of lacing on the glass.

The aroma of this brew is quite beefy with a scent of tangy jerky marinade. Well, that was different and unexpected. I guess I just have this strange aroma stuck in my head since the last time I had this brew it was used it in a marinade...I tried to forget about that, but it came screaming back to memory as soon as I smelled this brew. It smells of dark roasted malts that come across with a bit of a smoked aspect. There is also a sour twinge in the background before turning back to the smoked and burnt aromatics.

The taste of this brew flirts with a rauch-like character, it is beefy, smoky and rich tasting with a sour twinge suggestions a blend of sour mashing techniques in this brew. A seemingly charred flavor resides inside the mouth with a burnt flavor reminiscent of strong coffee. The bitterness seemingly comes from the dark roast of the malts and not from any citrus or tangy hops. Keeping the roasted aspect of this brew in check is the repetitive flavors of light sourness. Once the brew warms there is a slight indication of citrus hops.

This is a medium to full bodied brew with a moderate level of carbonation. It is well balanced and has a lot of flavor to enjoy. It has been too long since I have had other Guinness offerings but having this brew tonight brings back memories of my virgin days of beer appreciation and how I always reached for the Guinness instead of other "popular" offerings.

Imagine my surprise at finding this as a single in my neighbor's cooler (I live across the lot from a bottle shop)! I snagged it right up and have been looking forward to this one for several days.

My heavy-handed pour caused me a moment of consternation as I thought that it was going to overflow the rim of the glass as it seemed to cascade. The dense, deep-tan head looked like the top of an ice cream float. Color was a deep, dark-brown with cola highlights at the edges. The nose was very chocolaty with an underlying roastiness. Mouthfeel was medium with a definite hop/roasted barley bite on the tongue. This taste, along with its relatively high ABV, was a real revelation for this self-avowed hophead. This was not a Black IPA, but instead a hoppy dry stout. Wow! Finish was very dry, almost gaspingly so and I could not wait until my next sip. Definitely worth giving a try!

Pours a deep, dark black with a ton of chocolaty, foamy head. Great retention. Smells of roasted malt with mild caramel notes. Taste is rich, creamy roasted malt with some caramel and alcohol; a very mild bitterness in the finish. Mouthfeel is smooth, creamy, and full bodied.

Very nice stout. Definitely better than the original draught.

Poured into a Bruery tulip. Beer is black with a thin brown head that leaves a lot of lacing on the glass.

Aroma is sweet and very roasty.

Beer is medium bodied and very bitter. Its a little sweet up front but very very bitter. It finishes very dry, its good but I've had better Guinnesses...Guinnessi?

Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass.

This very dark brown almost gray and very foamy head gets out of the bottle instantly, making its trademark large size and slow together head. Body is a simple dark walnut brown/black. Big together retention on this that just wont go away.

Nose is a some malt but sense of fruit raspberries. This is fruity and hints of sweet cream as well. Wow unexpected fruit joy!

Taste brings a big hop pine, with a roast char character. Slight carbon and tobacco with a tannic dry finish. Lime astringent punch just slightly on the finish, it brings some quenching to the roast and makes the drink sort of juicy. Berry and red fruit sweet sense does not come through compared to what is on the nose. Afterfinish almost has a hop like cherry coca cola!

I never thought this would be this good, but there it is. A wonderful rich and dry stout with a quenching hop punch of juicy flavor. Just great and outstanding.

Got this in a trade with jspruit, thanks for the opportunity.
The beer pours a solid black with a slight dark ruby highlight on the edges. I might have poured to quickly, but this thing had a full 2+ inches of head and I had to swallow the last little bit out of the bottle. The head faded slowly to a thin layer on the surface of the beer and laced all the way down the glass. Smells of chocolate and an almost wine like soury fruity funk in there. Taste is a soured chocolate with a slight alcohol sting. Definitely has that signature Guinness sourness to it. Creamy and smooth to drink, I wish I had let it warm a bit more. Very nice stout, I wish I could get it more easily!

11.2 ounce bottle, best before dating of 01:11 on the rear label...part of a four pack from DeCicco's.

Pours black, lang lasting mocha head, that puffy, frothy and going to an interesting merainge. Leaves tons of sheeting and thicker lacing.

Dark malts, dark chocolate, cocoa and malt balls in the nose.

Full flavor stout, more chocolate, more dark sweet malts, mocha, pleasant waves of bitering hops mid way through add to the intrigue and interest.

Thick and smooth, alcohol well hidden. Dense and delicious. A clearly high quality product from an old time and true heavy weight of the good beer world. Go get some.

08/07/07- Received via trade from BA member Talisker.

Presentation- 11.2oz bottle with a best by date printed on the neck of the bottle. Poured into my Duvel tulip.

Appearance- Black as expected in the pour. Larger inch plus creamy looking head. Left decent patchwork lace behind.

Smell- Light dusting of chocolate, maybe a touch of hops and the lightest bit of coffee bean notes.

Taste- The cross between dark and milk chocolate comes though consistently, while the coffee flavor seems to be almost absent. Malt is fairly deep and a touch smoky. Seems to be a bit bitter from the handful of hops they put it.

Mouthfeel- A tad more carbonated than I would like, but becomes lightly creamy and more smooth as it warms to room temp.

Drinkability- Don't know what all the fuss is about. It's a pervectly fine beer, but I've had many other of the style that are better and have better outright flavor. I guess it's because of the scarcity.

The beer pours a pitch black color with a thick frothy tan head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is awesome! It has the typical black malt bitterness with a hint of chocolate malt sweetness. It's like a normal Guinness on steroids. It's dry and roasted and smooth as hell. The taste is great as well. It's bitter up front with loads of patent malts. It's goes down smooth and dry with a touch of chocolate malt sweetness. I love the black malt component. It's richer than the original, but it hides the alcohol warmth well. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a full bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a damn fine stout. I love the original Guinness, but this one is better.

I have heard a lot about this beer, lets see if it lives up to my expectations.

The beer pours a dark brown to black color with a tan head. The aroma is roasted malt with a lot of sweet, sugary notes. The flavor is roasted malt, chocolate, some dark fruit and a little bit of bitterness. There is also a sweet, fruity medicinal taste that I don't really like.

Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Better than some of the the other Guinness beers I have had, but nothing special. It is certainly not as good as I was expecting it to be. Just a slightly above average stout here.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass, the beer pours an almost jet-black coloring, but with some ruby highlights. The head is a big, chunky, light milk-chocolate coloring that settles into a one inch vision after the beautiful cascade. Chocolate, coffee, toffee, and molasses invade the nasal cavity on first smells, and further investigation gives off a slightly bitter and slightly sour scent. The beer is subtle in it's initial flavors, and it slowly reveals some smokey roast flavors, darkly sweet caramel and molasses malt, and a very sneaky hoppiness in the very deep background. There is also a roasted meat quality to the flavor, as well, although I have a hard time pinpointing it to anything more than that. The beer is extremely smooth and creamy, and the flavors quickly depart the mouth, leaving a slightly sweet and rich aftertaste. Delicious!

Back when I was getting into beer about four years ago, Guinness FES was near the top of my list of beers that I wanted to try. But there was one problem; you had to travel to the Caribbean to purchase it. Fast forward to the present, now Guinness FES is imported to the USA now. The opening ceremony of the 330 ml bottle couldn't be better; I have my Guinness pint glass and my Guinness bottle opener ready to go. Better late than never? On to the beer:

The light doesn't break through the ink black colored body. Its head is big and rocky, leaving some creamy lace on the sides of the glass. There's something admirable about the aroma; bitter chocolate, blackstrap molasses, some lactose, hint of coffee. This is making me excited.

If you like your stouts to be very bitter and roasted, than this is for you. Personally, I like it. In truth, it tastes like the very first time I had Guinness Draught...I remember it being very strong and bitter tasting, but liking it. I guess you could say this is a grown-up version of that to appeal to my different palate. Bitter chocolate hits, burnt malts, light touch of sweet alcohol, long lingering burnt aftertaste, like after drinking a strong cup of coffee. It's easy in the mouth at 7.5% ABV, and it has a decent drinkability for its size.

Good foreign stout. The novelty and long wait alone were worth paying the $9.99 for the 4-pack, but a second purchase at that price? I won't know until the next time I enter a store.

from a bottle into a glass

A- This has a dark black look to it but is actually a very dark dirty brown with a very pretty white foamy cap of condensed bubbles. Good lace on the way down.

S- Nothing to write home about but slight roasted malt and some chocolate backing although it's not to strong. There is a strong presence of aroma hops in here so hopefully that translates to taste.

T- Like flavored chocolate water with roasted malts thrown into the mix. It is on the dry side though with warming. The hops come out and distract me from the regular guinness taste making this a bit more doable.

M- A bit watered down feeling but not as much as regular draft. This has a nice meaty body that is about medium. With all that said it does display some creamy appeal. A nice amount of carb judging by feel and look.

D- Gets better as it warms while the chocolate comes out more. Next time I pick this up I'll just wait till it gets to that point.
