14.9oz nitro-can poured into a Guinness pint.
A - After popping the cap, I had a rush of air spurt out, ready to squirt me in the eye if I popped the tab any more. I rushed to the sink and finished popping and.... actually only a little bit bubbled over. I started my pour down the side of the glass and as usual, poured in the middle about halfway through and my oh my. This beer certainly does show up for a party. Brilliantly cascading, the beer slowly but surely builds the head as the tan foam falls into a black abyss, then slowly rises back up to build an incredibly creamy head that lasts the entirety of the beer. As such, the beer also has amazing lacing. A visually impressive performance.
S - Unfortunately, the appearance is pretty much the best characteristic of this beer. The beer smells relatively lifeless. The most profound feature in the nose is simply some roasted barley, some malts, and a faint trace of coffee. Not much else going on in the nose.
T - Similarly, the taste falls off when compared to both the nose and the appearance. Some coffee, some chocolate, hops are pretty much nonexistent. As a consequence of the visually appealing head, the taste suffers as half of the sip of a beer is just creamy foam that adds an unpleasant watery and bland characteristic to the beer.
M - Mouthfeel is surprisingly and not beneficially light and watery. Almost zero carbonation, invisible alcohol, and watery flavor makes the beer feel dull and lifeless on the palate and has almost no aftertaste.
D - Drinkability is moderate. While it's possible to quaff this beer without thinking due to the insanely light body and no alcohol presence, the lack of flavor and awkward mouthfeel doesn't make me want to try.
Supposedly, the Guinness of lore is actually the Foreign version, so maybe I will pick up a bottle of that to try, but as far as this beer is concerned, it doesn't live up to the hype at all.
