Reviewed from notes

Served in a Guinness pint glass

A: Appears black, but shows a deep ruby color on the edges when held up to any light. About a finger and a half of ultra creamy white head that slowly fades to one or two centimeters and stays forever. Nice stickage to the glass as well.

S: Faint roasted malt smell. The nitro really masks the nose.

T: Just a roasted malt taste. Pretty plain and disappointing. The nitro strikes again, probably holding back the flavor a bit.

M: The common belief that you need a spoon to make your way through a pint of Guinness is way off base at best. It is actually quite light and fairly watery, and feels even more watery as it warms up. Finish is a tiny bit dry.

O: Guinness kills you with looks and with the price you pay for it on tap. Doesn't live up to the hype generated by the die hard Guinness fans and average beer drinkers.

Precursor to St Pattys Day, and a result of the shopping for said holiday.

Pour is perfect, as usual. one inch head results from the reverse cascade of nitro bubbles.

Almost black body with white head. Damn this thing looks good in a Guiness glass.

Roasted malt. No coffee, no dark chocolate. All malt here. But its not overwhelming. Balanced and drinkable.

I know its watery, but its still good. Very roasted malt is the first thing that comes to mind. Very light body. If this were brewed in the US, it would be an American Black Ale/Schwarzbier. Clean finish that leads to a slightly chewy malt. Those roasted malts are the facade that fades into a soapy feeling.

Enjoyed on tap.

Appearance: I absolutely LOVE the look of this beer. The wonderful darkness and the creamy white head can make even someone who hates beer want to have a taste. Appears almost black, but when in good enough light, you can see it is actually a very dark amber.

Smell: Nothing special here. Smells like a stout, but not very strong. You can sense a little bit of coffee, but nothing jumps out at you with this one.

Taste: Again, nothing special, but it definitely has a pleasant taste to it. The first sip was surprisingly bitter, with an aftertaste that leaves you wanting more. Definitely hints of coffee that you get at the tail end of a sip.

Mouthfeel: Very smooth, an definitely dry. This one's not going to coat your mouth (even though it looks like it might!). Nothing is wrong with the mouthfeel, but like the rest of this beer, nothing is too special about it.

Overall: It's a commonly available stout that's not ridiculously priced. Very average, but it's a beer that I would love to enjoy every once in a while.
