Poured into a Guinness Pint Glass

A: Pours a dark brown/ black color, love the cascading effect. Finger of creamy mocha head stays til the finish. Lacing a plenty and looks like vanilla milk shake was just served.

S: Lots of deep, dark roasty malts, fresh cofffee, light cocoa.

T: Roasty malts, bitter cofffee, lots of dark roasty flavors.

M: Very smooth, dry an very light bodied, could drink pint upon pint. Common misconception that this is a "heavy beer." Not at all, could drink multiple pints of this mick gusto.

O: I like this and prefer it on tap. The nitro can is no comparison to the tap version. Sure its no RIS but its still a classic. Slainte!

god, what a beautiful pour. a sight to behold no matter how many times you see it. i feel bad even doing this review, as i may not give the beer due justice. pours a nice dark chocolate brown into a solid black glass no light penetrates. solid, almost two finger head that lingers til the end of the glass. creamy, off-white, almost light mocha head with thick, frothy lacing.
gallant bubbles frolic alongside the glass throughout the initial release of the beverage. again, a beautiful pour.

smells delicious. hazelnut malts with a hint of cocoa, fresh. like putting your nose inside a just opened bag of the best smelling coffee one can find, but not overbearing.

light, smooth on-bringing comes to a quick, crisp, tasteful finish. tastes is of barley and malts, with an aftertaste of hops : all uniquely their own.

i was hesistant to review Guinness without the widget. i felt it wouldn't be an accurate representation of the beer, this 'experiment', which has left the Guinness bottles without their now familiar 'widgets'. although, after reviewing it, i realize looking back it will be more unique, perhaps a time where "to widget, or not to widget?" was indeed a the question. could these little guys be no more? who knows. all i know is i totally realized how much i had been playing hard to get with my love for this beer. it really is all you could ask for in a brew. a nectar of the gods.

Enjoyed on tap out for Irish breakfast. Arrived at my table in an imperial pint glass. Served pretty well chilled.

A) I have a soft spot for this beer. This is the first beer that I ever even took the time to appreciate appearance. I still love the looks of a pint today. It's black in color, with a nice creamy full finger of head. Excellent retention and ample lacing.

S) There is not much to the aroma, and certainly nothing offensive. This is mostly a deep roast with a little hop bitterness.

T) Pretty close to the nose, malt, pleasing roast, very light coffee, hop bitterness. The finish is a little dry, pleasing aftertaste.

M) This is fairly light, not thin though. I've always found this rather creamy, kind of soft, right amount of carbonation. Easy to drink.

O) I still enjoy a properly poured pint of the black stuff. You can find other stouts with quite a bit more aroma, flavor and body, but this is still a classic.
