Reviewed from notes taken during a side-by-side Murphy's and Guinness on nitro-tap session.

Has exactly the same nitro-boosted textbook jet-black and tan whipped froth visual presentation as any Irish Stout would when on nitro-tap. Nose presents faint amounts of roasted malt, somewhat hidden (as always) by the layer of foam on top. As it warms, (and the foam lid gets removed) it develops a slightly fruity "generic esters on burnt toast" aroma. When compared to a Murphy's side-by-side (also on nitro-tap), the flavor has a slightly heavier emphasis on gentle roasted malt and the body seems slightly thicker. In fact, I would dare say that it seems like the Murphy's starts out quite dry and finishes semi-sweet, while the Guinness starts out semi-sweet and turns dry in the finish. Texturally, both are just about as creamy and smooth as can be given the nitro-tap treatment.

Sometimes I feel like having slightly more coffee grounds bitterness in my stout, and that is when I have a Murphy's. When I want more emphasis on the sweetness of a roasted malt, I drink a Guinness. Admittedly, it seems as though Guinness has been nerfed as of lately in the US, it doesn't have quite as bold an aroma or flavor as I remember it having in my college days. Well, either that or nostalgia is playing tricks with my memories, I'm not really sure.

Appearance: Pouring this took about 5 minutes. filled half the glass, then the pub keeper came back to top off the rest. Nice All black, very dark stout. Had a nice thick creamy head that cascaded to the top of the glass slowly.

Smell: I rich dry coffee aroma from the roasted malt. slight hint of hop bitterness, but nothing that overpowers that coffee aroma.

Taste: Rich and creamy coffee flavor, along with a light fruity hop in the aftertaste, ending dry.

Mouth: Thick mouth, with a creamy carbonation from the nitro-tap.

Overall: Biggest Irish dry stout out there. Just wish it was a little less costly. Draught is what turned me onto Beer, not knowing anything of the craft brewing culture. One of Guinness' lower rated stouts but overall a great memory.

What can I say, its Guinness Draught in the can with the floaty thing.

Its good, there are better stouts but this is highly available and it suits me just fine.

Still a good black and tan when put with Bass Pale Ale. In fact I find it fun just trying to get them to not mix.

Its black, and very frothy. A more subtle malt flavor then it used to be it seems. Hard to stop drinking it though once you start. It goes down so smooth the 14.9 ounces is gone before you realize it.
