11.2 oz bottle into a nonic pint glass.
A: Pours a dark chestnut color with good clarity in spite of its dark shade. The head is a one finger light cream color. Not much retention here, but a nice bit of lacing is left behind.
S: Chocolate, toffee, caramel, and some brown sugar. I detect a hint of roasted barley, as well. Not much stronger than a lot of Guinness offerings, but it works okay.
T: There's some roasted barley on the initial flavor which seems to give it a bit of a twist over a typical brown/dark mild ale (but this is NOT a mild ale at 5.6%). I notice a lot of malt bitterness in this one - nothing to suggest it has a healthy hop bill, although a touch of piny bittering hops *do* make themselves known. Also a bit buttery tasting. The way this comes across, it almost seems like it lacks sweetness. I get used to the savory components, however. What I never really get used to is the finish trailing off with a whimper.
M: I like a clean, dry beer - but these sensations hit too fast and too hard, robbing about 1/3rd of the flavor profile nearly completely. What usually works for Guinness draught doesn't work here.
O: Not a fan. It doesn't flat out suck per se, but I'd much rather use the remaining bottle from the pack in a recipe than drink it. I can see this being fantastic in a beef stew or chili, at least.
