Kuhnhenn Raspberry Eisbock 2007
Thanks to kdub87 who sent this to me as his first trade.
A: When I poured this beer it looked almost flat. I say that because there was hardly any head and my pour was very aggressive. There are a few traces of bubbles and a single clump of about six bubbles in the middle. I can see the carbonation rise up around the edges of my glass. This beer has a nice deep brown color. Nothing can be seen from one side of the glass through the body to the other.
S: Tons of sweet raspberry on the nose. There are some hints of caramel and toffee blended in as well.
T: Wow, the sweetness of the raspberry that I smelled tastes tart on my tongue. The raspberry is strong but I pick up hints of dark fruit, sweet toffee and a little tobacco on the back end.
M: Full mouth feel, syrupy but with a touch of crisp carbonation on the finish.
D: Awesome beer, I would drink it certainly drink it again. However I would always treat it as an after dinner sipper as opposed to a sessionable beer shared with friends all night.

Poured from a 375 mL bottle into an enlarged wine glass. This is the 2012 version
Appearance: Pours a dark raspberry red and gives a half finger of reddish-tan head which fade almost immediately to nothing.
Smell: Huge aroma - when I poured it, the aroma filled up the room: BIG raspberry, molasses, caramel, brown sugar, chocolate dipped raspberries, bourbon, oak, vanilla, toffee. Big and complex.
Taste: Holy cow, huge flavor (I think my eyes are watering): Big delicious raspberry, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, bourbon. Quite sweet, but really delicious flavors. Jammy and syrupy raspberry take the lead with some bourbon-like qualities playing wonderfully beside.
Mouth-feel: Low to medium carbonation with a thick, sticky, syrupy body. Finishes a bit sweet. The alcohol is masked masterfully.
Overall: This is an awesome, huge raspberry beer. The raspberry is amazingly pronounced but wonderful. Other players include chocolate, vanilla, toffee, molasses. This is surprisingly drinkable. I'm definitely glad I drank the whole 375 mL bottle!
