Shared this with a few friends at the Hourglass Brewery on 1/23 after acquiring a few bottles earlier that same evening.

I really enjoyed this. It was about what I was expecting, though perhaps more boozy. Eisbocks aren't really my "thing," and I mostly sought this out per request from one friend that participated in the share, but it was worth seeking out. He actually wanted the blueberry-flavored one, but we've pretty much given up on that one so this was the next-best thing.

I highly recommend this one, if you can get it. I have one more bottle but am going to age it for a while and perhaps trade it for something interesting in the future. We'll see.

Maroon wax capped 12.7oz bottle from IAmJacksHopTongue (many thanks!). 2014 vintage, I believe fourt quarter release. Served in a Barrel and Barley teku.

Pours bright red hued tea with a finger and a half ecrue froth. The cap of head fades to a tiny collar that leaves no lace.

Rather simple but inviting aromas of raspberries, sugar, grains and a hint of apple. Not much there but those berries smell delicious.

Taste follows the nose. Raspberry, simple syrup, grain alcohol, caramel, vague shortbread and plenty of booze. What it perhaps lacks in depth, it makes up for in pure boozey raspberry candy goodness.

Thick, syrupy, heavy feel with very subtle carbonation. Vodka soaked raspberries, natural sugar and a little bit grain in the finish.

Kuhnhenn's Raspberry Eisbock is delicious in its simple elegance. This is my first real eisbock and if this is whay can be expected I'm interested in trying more. Worth a try for sure if you have the opportunity.

One of those special beers that somehow eluded me for years. Big thanks to rudzud for finally getting one and sharing it with me. 2012 vintage.

No real head, thick syrupy pour, long legs, semi clear for how dark it is, mahogany chestnut dark thick color faint dark ruby light.

Nose brings tons of syrupy bock, and syrupy raspberry, toffee, caramel, candy syrup, sweet raspberry marmalade, so much raspberry puree, super dark choc too, heavy truffle like dark choc with raspberry filling, no booze, raspberry rock candy crystals,

Taste is amazing, full of jammy raspberry, flesh and raspberry jam, etc, with great powdered cocoa and dark choc dust. Very sweet, syrupy candy, raspberry truffle filling and dark choc outside. Little tannic seed stem but the real raspberry seed in there. Rich velvety raspberry and choc, like a black forest cake with raspberry, bakers choc cake. Finish is sticky syrupy but not messy, very little warming booze, sticky finish.

Mouth is thick and velvety, very little carb but very little booze too.

Overall, I had very high expectations for this, and it even surpassed them. Amazing beer. Only qualm is the lack of the bock and malts on the flavor.

Shared with JLindros. 2012 vintage

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice crystal clear, if it wasn't so dark, brown hue with no head, though wisps are kicked up when swirled. Awesome legs too.

S - Aromas of raspberry dark chocolate truffle. Toffee caramel, Raspberry puree, glorious chocolate dark and rich, with no heat whatsoever. Uhhh...oh my gosh. Like a raspberry tootsie too...only not awful!

T - Taste is sweet raspberry jam, sticky, chocolate truffle massiveness, caramel, toffee, no alcohol at all really. Holy moly. This is absurd. So much chocolate and raspberry. I can't stress how much raspberry jam and chocolate. A touch on the sweet side.

M - Mouthfeel is silky velvet, no booze. Wow.

O - Overall this beer was even better than my expectations. Mindblowingly incredible with loads of raspberry and chocolate. Never Had anything like this, I'm floored.

Tastes like raspberry jam with an injection of booze. Decent but highly letdown by this one.
