Bottle tasted on 31.12.08. Beer poured a deep golden, nearly brown color with a slight white head and ring on the edge of the glass. There is a nice aromatic nose to the beer with some orange peel, corriander and tangerine. The taste is a bit tart up front with nice tangerine and other citrus notes. There are some chamomile and oat notes in the taste as well. Tasty beer.

Pours a clear pale orange color with a full finger of fluffy, bright white head...remains for quite some time and produces some sticky web-like lacing.
Faint aromas of sweet malt, citrus, and earthy yeast.
The taste is ok...definite tangerine flavor and glad to see it is not overdone here. Add in some subtle spice and gentle sweetness makes this one fairly easy to consume and finishes with a nice bitter snap.
Mouthfeel is thin and the carbonation is decent.
A unique brew to say the least...simply not my cup of tea...er beer.
Still...worth a try if you enjoy the style.

I had this on tap at Ashleys in Ann Arbor, MI.
Hazy golden color with a white head. Smells of sweet citrus fruitorange, tangerine, strawberryand bit of bubblegum. Tastes crisp, lemony, tart and hints of spice. Slightly sweet. Medium to light body. Crisp in the mouth with average carbonation. A tad drying.
A complex, well-balanced wit. Provides some interesting variety to the Michigan wit beer scene.

Pours a clear straw color with almost no head and no lacing.
Scent is initially malty with a fruity sweetness.
Taste is a nice combination of the malty fruity sweetness a bit tart with some yeast characteristics. The finish is delicate hops and on the dry side, very nice.
Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied, crisp with the perfect amount of carbination for the style.
Drinkability is where this beer really takes off. It is smooth and sweet, but with just the right amount of balance leveled by the hops to make it go down easy. I will buy this one again before the summer ends.

I had this on-tap at the brewpub. Poured into a sample glass.
Appearance: Pours a cloudy yellow with a mild amount of white head that goes away quickly.
Smell: Sweet with some grain and a strong banana note that covers any tangerine.
Taste: Follows from the smell. There is a strong banana note, but the citrus does show up a bit here. Herbal with a mildly bitter finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium body with smooth carbonation and a slick finish.
Overall: I would have liked the tangerine to be less overshadowed by the wit yeast. A bit watery. Just alright.

On draft at the brewery...
Appears a light pale gold with lots of white head that retains well. Scattered lacing is left on the glass.
Smell is of citrus and coriander with chamomile.
Taste is of the same aromas with a slight tea smell and a weird but pleasant medicinal chamomile taste.
Mouthfeel is smooth and crisp with mild tangerine and sweetness.
Drinkability is ok. All in all, a different but strangely nice brew.

Reviewed from notes. On tap at the brewpub.
Pours a hazy light apricot color with a white head. A bit of lacing on the way down. The nose brings forward a pretty good amount of tangerine as well as a bit of yeast and spice. The taste is slightly spicy with some coriander noticeable, though the tangerine dominates and makes it a bit one-dimensional. However, quite pleasant. Nice light feel with good carbonation. This would be nice to have a growler of on a hot summer day.

Quite a nice surprise here. Pours an orange-tinged gold in color with a fizzy medium sized head with a bit of retention. Nose is strongly citrusy, reminds me of some sort of liqueur. Taste is quite sweet, with a quite distinct tangerine flavor backed up nicely by a nice bit of bitterness. Quite flavorful. My only criticism is that it tastes a bit disjointed somehow, the different flavors don't particularly mesh well, but nothing too horrid, just a tad so.

This I like. Yum. Poured out to a slightly cloudy yellow color. Decent head noted, yet no lacing around the glass. Odors of fruit, mostly citrus (tangerine) were noted, as was a crisp, fresh character, one that was unlike any other I have experienced in a beer. Flavor was damn near a 5. Really. I am truely conflicted about not giving it a 5. Amazingly refreshing and delicate taste of citrus, malt and wheat, all in perfect harmony, making the flavor out of this world. Slightly sweet as well, but not a sticky sweet, more of a smooth crisp sweet. Finished great, light and airey, and went down smooth. Aftertaste is a damn good too, almost begging you to have another sip. Highly recommended. Get your hands on this beer, you will not be disappointed.
NOTE: This is an Great Session beer. Hence, my rating has now gone up. I could whack down a dozen of these and feel good, and still enjoy the flavor. Praise goes to Kuhnhenn... great beer.

Classic cloudy yellow with a mottled, multicolored head that reminded me of something boiling on the stovetop.
Served in a traditional hefeweizen glass from a 22 oz. bottle. The server was careful to agitate the yeast before opening.
There are aromas and flavors of lemon and orange, white pepper and chalk, coriander and gum. Tart, it is well balanced between slick, candied texture and yeasty vitality.

A decidedly average beer from a great brewery. The aroma is sweet and fruity, but a bit weak. Carbonation is weak, head sparse and short lived. Taste is quite light with hints of tangerine, and a nice crisp hop note. A bit watery, flat, really unremarkable. Might be nice on a hot summer day, but other than that I'll pass.

Hazy golden yellow with a bright white head, decent retention and lacing. Very citrusy aroma, with lots of orange/tangerine rather than hoppy citrus. The yeasty wit character is there, but not as strong as in many other wit beers, and a bit of the raw wheat aroma comes through. The flavour is definitely orange citrus fruit with a bit of coriander spiciness and a light malt sweetness. There's a bit of bite from the carbonation, but otherwise the flavour is quite refreshing. The finish is a palate-cleansing, acidic and tart citrus flavour... very nice. High carbonation and light body without being watery at all. This would make an excellent session beer, light and flavourful without being overbearing. I look forward to my next opportunity to have a pint.

Much lighter and more light golden than its bottled brother -- similarly, not nearly as hazed. Large white head. Light tangerine aromas but more lemon for some reason than the bottled. Very light but well spiced flavor -- all the standard goodies: lemon, cloves, tangerine. Has the same pretty crisp, dry finish. A prime summer offering, a great session beer, and very nice all around.

Kuhnhenn makes some wonderful strong beers, so I was really pleased to find one of their more sessionable beers up to the same standard. On tap at the brewpub, this is a champagne-colored brew with a thin head and a strong orange--er--tangerine scent in the bouquet. The flavor too highlights citrus on top of and above the traditional wit flavors and spices. The finish had a relaxing but strong chamomile presence.
My only gripe with this brew is that I wish it had been slightly more effervescent and refreshing. The body is light and smooth, but it is so almost to the point of being too syrupy. With a little more spritz this could compete with Avery's White Rascal as one of the finest wits in the U.S.

This beer poured out as a cloudy yellow brew with a white head on it. The smell of the beer has a nice amount of citrus in it. The taste of this beer is also mostly a citrus kick with some grains in the aftertaste. I find this beer to be nice and refreshing for he spring and summer seasons. Overall the beer is enjoyable but I'm not sure if I'd run all the way to MI for more.

Aroma:Wheat and orange.
Appearance:Pale orange, not a whole lot of head.
Taste:On the foretaste, it's mostly orange and wheat. Through the midtaste the orange fades out and gets watered down a little. All that remains on the aftertaste is some wheaty flavors.
Mouthfeel:Light body, low carbonation.
Drinkability:This is a tasty, refreshing beer, not a whole lot of complexity, but what it does, it does well.

This is a interesting beer to say the least. Its a wit that crosses into fruit beer territory with a good amount of success. Pours out to a dark gold, almost amber color in the glass with a moderate-sized head. The aroma is that of citrus and unbaked bread dough. The taste is complex, with orange/citrus, coriander and other spices coming ot the forefront. Slightly sweet, but not at all cloying. This one has a crisp finish. A summer dessert beer.

Like most Kuhnhenn brews (these days) much better on tap than in the bottle. Light golden appearance with a big white frothy head that lasts and leaves nice lacing. Aromas are all citrusy tangerine/orange/lemon with coriander and other spices rounding it all out. Taste is citrusy and wheaty with a nice does of spices, yeasty flavors, and some hops in the dry end. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and right for a wit, drinkability is awesome. This one was served in a 22oz mug at the brewpub, and even than I wanted another one! Killer stuff...

On-tap at the brewpub. First new batch in circa three years. Served in a pint glass.
A - Pours with a finger of eggshell foam that settles to a partial cap, leaving behind no lace. Body is a slightly hazed golden color.
S - Smells like creamsicle. Tangerine, vanilla, light coriander, and malted wheat. Kind of like if someone dropped a creamsicle in a Hoegaarden. Surprisingly pleasant.
T - Taste is more acidic citrus mixed with traditional witbier flavors. There's again the creamsicle flavor, but it's not quite as overt. This is definitely odd, but strangely grows on me as I work through the glass.
M - Smooth, medium-light body, soft carbonation, sticky finish. No obvious alcohol.
D - The server warned me this was an acquired taste and she was right. However, it only took about a half-glass for me to warm up to it. The tangerine little more tangy than orange peel witbiers and I think it's oddly successful. Would have it again on a hot summer day.

Aroma - delicate spice and chardonay dance with honey and lemon. very clean, estery, purfumey. quite nice
Appearance - Hazy light orange hue, cloudy, creates a small head and nice lacing.
Flavor - Honey, lemon, slightly tart, spicy crisp, refreshing. Citrus notes complement the wheat and spice very well. Balance between fruit and base beer is excellent
Mouthfeel - Medium to light bodied, finishes quite dry. Medium carbonation.
Overall - Quite nice, an easy drinking citrus infused witbier. Very memorable and I would definitely try again. Well done!

Second beer of the day at the Rattle n Hum's Kuhnhenn event. This one was served in a 14oz pint glass.
Tangerine Wit pours a hazy goldenrod, with a thin wispy white head and minimal lacing. As with the hefe I had before this, the bartender seemed to be pouring to minimize the amount of foam topping the beer. The aroma is great, it's pungent and very heavy on the tangerine, with some of the expected coriander shining through as well. While it didn't come across this way in the aroma, on my palate it seemes like Kuhnhenn just went a little too heavy on the tangerine for the beer's own good. It was too close to drinking what I'd imagine a glass of tangerine juice would taste like. Entirely one note, with no coriander or light pepper or anything else making an impact at all. Mouthfeel is spot on though, light and nimble body paired with a bubbly, effervescent carbonation. I think Kuhnhenn's Tangerine Wit was a great idea to add a subtle twist to the witbier style, but in the end they just took it a bit too far for my taste.

On tap at the pub...Pours a dark peach color with a hint of orange, good color. An off white head that leaves a thin but full cap, lacing, that slowly creeps up the side of the glass...The aroma is totally garbage. Sharp acidic tangerines, bitter, winter spices, totally out of balance, sweet sugary crap that reminds me of a carbonated water. Horrible...The taste is slightly better as some of the actual wheat comes through, sweet honey wheat, tart bitter fruit. The carbonation is too high, just not into this at all.
Total pass for all people under all circumstances.

12 oz. brown bottle; $1.79 for single bottle; best before 09-14-05, brewed on 04-14-05
Pours a crystal clear golden-orange color with very little head that disappears quickly. Absolutely no head retention. Aroma consists of a sweet malt smell followed by strong citrusy tangerines and some spices... coriander maybe? This light-bodied ale has a good sweet malt background with lots of tangerine flavor as well as spices like coriander and something else that I can't quite identify. The bitterness from the hops balances out what might otherwise be a cloying sweet beer. The carbonation was pretty low, but the beer is still very light and refreshing. Very enjoyable summer beer.
