On tap at Kuhnhenn. Burnt amber with faint orange highlights all around, a mild haze sets in throughout the very middle part of the glass while the rest of the beer retains decent clarity. The small white head was probably more due to the pour than the beer - it's foamy and leaves very little lacing on the way down.

The nose contains a nice, citric hop punch; a borderline tropical bouquet of fruits - pineapples, grapefruits, and other assorted juicy goodness. The fruits are heavier on the sweet and juicy side, and don't contain much of the pith/peel bitterness, somewhat typically for an APA. The hoppy smells remain somewhat low, though there is a light bit of pine and mild hop oil that peak through with slight pungency and hit the nostrils before the aroma is completely gone.

Following right through with the aroma, the taste starts off with a moderated amount of citric flavors and juicy fruits. Seemingly sweet up front, and a touch watery at first. I didn't realize this beer was only 5.6% ABV until I looked at the menu again. Pineapple, tangerine, and grapefruit coat the palate before letting the other side of the hops dig into your tongue - lightly herbal and peppery, leafy and relaxed. The bitterness is relevant, but still pretty low - again, typical for a Pale Ale. It's just enough to balance and coexist successfully with the citrus and fruit, also backed up by a light sweetness from the malt. Getting some more perfume-like and floral notes as this one warms up. Thin-medium bodied, wet and slick with medium carbonation.

Kuhnhenn puts out another winner here; a very tasty and super-drinkable APA sure to please any fan of citrus and hops. The low ABV ensures you could throw back a growler of this and (most likely) keep on kickin'.

This brew was served from the tap at the Kuhnhenn Brewing Company taproom in Warren, Michigan. It arrived in a generic pint glass, glowing a shimmering golden coloring. It held a one and a half finger tall head of snow white bubbles, showing decent retention, and leaving spots and cords of lacing all around the glass. A chill haze was noted, but no sediment was found. Carbonation appeared to be light. The aroma gave rubbers, raw powdered yeast, brightly citric and sweetly nectary hops, peach fuzz, lemon wipes, soft floury wheatiness, crisp pale malts, honeysuckle, heavy creamer, chlorine and medicinal phenols, and kiwi fruitiness with warmth. Our first impression was that there was great fruitiness to balance the bright citric hops that came through in the flavoring. As we sipped, the taste opened with cotton, pineapple and mango fruitiness, grassy, grapefruity, and nectary hops, light plastics and rubbers, basil and oregano herbals, and fresh apricot juiciness to pull us to the peak. Here we received more of a bitter, herbal hoppiness, with white sugar flashes, dill, medicinal phenols, parchment paper, and sugary sweet citric hops at the way back. These, in turn, marked the transition to the finish, where sweaty dog, plastics, cork, chalk, crispy pales, mineral, dust, fresh mint, green pepper vegetals, nectarine, and sea salt came to blend. The aftertaste breathed of white flour pencil eraser, bitter grassy and citric hops, plastics, glass, corny adjuncts, and brown breadiness. The body was medium, and the carbonation was medium. Each sip gave nice froth and cream, with pleasant drag to the slurp, and crisp, foamy finishing pop. This left the mouth wet and coated, with eventual creeping chalky dryness. The abv was appropriate, and the beer drank insanely well.

Overall, what we enjoyed most about this beer was its flavor and its drinkability. Sweet and citric hops, lighter malts, and fruity inclusions blended wonderfully, wafting gently over the taste buds for the entire tasting. Both comfort citrics and exotic tropicals were appreciated, giving the feeling of something familiar, but also something new and exciting. At no point did anything become overbearing, even with warmth. The nose, comparatively did get a little sweaty and metallic by the very last few sips of the glass. That said, you could sip this beer all day long and it would never get old. This is one of the best, most consistent Kuhnhenn offerings we’ve had in a long time.
