Immense pillowy tan head on a dark teak-hued unfiltered behemoth. Yes, a fruity behemoth.

This sucker's got a big nose. That Kuhnhenn bubblegum nature seems isolated as the one strong aroma in a complex nose. You'll love it or you won't I did. Tart fruit and vinous apects round out the scents, with a real comparison to gueuze.

Tons of character in the flavor, although it's all in the middle of the swallow (odd.) Lemony, apply, apricot, and that bubblegum. Sour. Surprisingly dry.

As I said, surprisingly, there's little impact in the first sensing of flavor, all the flavors rush to the mouth mid-sip, and zip through, squabbling with each other toward the dry finish.

Unique and recommended, although like a lambic, it's not for everyone.

Hazy copperish in color. Thin head with viberant bubbles. Nose of bright, sweet rasberries and briary fruit. Rich, but a balance of fruit, acids and ever so slight alc. in the finish. Mouth watering tartness and love the way it is drinking after over 5yrs...now I need another bottle to save!

12oz bottle acquired in trade with Styles (thanks!). Bottled in April 2004.

Opened to a loud and audible psst. Poured a deep and cloudy amberish color with an average to larger sized off white head. Aromas of cherry pie filling, light yeast and raspberries. Tastes of tart cherries and raspberries. Didn't realize it was 8.5%. Has a medium sweetness to it with a lightly tart finish.

Dark Brownish Red. Gentle aroma of peaches, raspberries and medicine. I didn’t really like this. Here’s why: The raspberries did not taste authentic. It is was to sweet and there isn’t enough tartness to balance the beer out well. Mild maltiness, with notes of cherries and raspberries. Fruity beyond belief. Not very tasty.

Bottled 4/04...thanks to Eyedrinkale for this one.
Hazy, rusty ruby color with two plus fingers of suds-like head...tan in color and produces some thin, yet sticky lacing.
Splendid aroma of rasberries, strawberries, and some sweet malt...no alcohol in the nose.
The taste is quite unique and the malt finds its way up front at first with the berry flavor sliding across the tongue...not too sweet and finishes very clean, no off flavors. The alcohol is detected halfway thru the pint, but by no means "hot."
Mouthfeel is average and as expected from the pour, the carbonation is quite high.
Must say I am enjoying this one for what it is and would gladly have another if given the opportunity.

Thanks to hopdog...
Appears a reddish brown with an offwhite collar.
Smell is of sour cherries with a bit of a funky yeast coming through nicely.
Taste is of cherries are the mainstay with candy sugar and yeasty sour dough.
Mouthfeel is yeasty and sour with a slight dryness and carbonatioin filling out the palate.
Drinkability isn't bad. I like this brew.

April 2004 vintage. Pours a deep murky brown color with a thin bubbly tan head on top. Hints of red peek through when held up to the light. Lingering bubbles. Aromas are a nice mix of raisins and raspberry sweetness. Notes of caramel and yeastiness with dark brown sugar tones as well. Quite a nice aroma on this one.

First sip brings a punchy blast of sweet/sour brown sugar caramelly maltiness. A nice melding of sharp rapsberry flavor flows through each sip. Slightly spicy yeastiness on the way down. Notes of raisins and dark fruits as well. Quite an interesting brew here...this one has held up quite nicely! Lingers with raspberry jam tones.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with fizzy carbonation. I'd like to see the carbonation toned down a bit but it's otherwise quite refreshing. A nice change of pace but not one I'd be seeking out all the time. Yet another nice experiment by Kuhnhenn. Thanks to Eyedrinkale for tossing this one in.

4-6 oz sample from a 12 oz bottle.

Pours a yellowed brown color with a light coating of head over top. Nose on this beer is incredible. Big blast of rasperry and a light raisin and chooclate playing behind it. Very very apparent fruityness overall. Flavor is also big raspberry with more of a chocolate undertone...maybe a touch of caramel. Very nice flavor. The feel is light moderate with an active carbonation. Highly enjoyable brew. Lots of flavor and aroma here. Worth a try.

Thanks to Todd for sharing this bottle with me.

A- Deep garnet with brownish hues ... massive big bubbled head. Todd was careful enough to leave the chunks of sediment behind.

S- Smell of a raspberry cordial or a fresh piece of raspberry candy / gum. Bit of estery alcohol off the nose.

T- Sweet upfront with a mild alcoholic candy-like raspberry flavor, hints of caramel and malt sweetness. Faint hops and a fluffy tartness help to balance the sweetness.

M- Moderate body with a creamy palate.

D- More of a after dinner drink or perhaps to pair with a salad. I could not see drinking this on its own but definitely pairing it with chocolate or other sweets.

Brewed in April 2004. 12 oz bottle. 8.5% ABV.

Pours out to a hazy dark amber, forming a huge sea-foam beige head with very good retention and lacing. The carbonation is very strong, producing a huge "Psssht" when releasing the cap. The aroma is very Belgian with lots of sour fruit lacto, weaker raspberries and cherries, dusty basement. The mouthfeel is very spritzy...too much so. Light to medium bodied with a pronounced vinous alcohol appearance. The taste is a hodgepodge and I don't think that this bottle is what the brewer's intended. Sour and bilious with a pronounced metal and vinous character. Barely any fruit taste. I'm convinced that this is contaminated. Bitterness is minimal and barely stands next to the pronounced chemical sourness. I'm starting to feel a headache come on. Yeasty with a strong alcohol finish. I will be returning this 6 pack to the brewers along with my Creme Brulee Java Stout...these guys have bottling issues. Down the drain. I will have to review this later with a known good sample.

First off, thanks Clark for sharing this. Cloudy orange body. Superb foamy and sticky head. Beautiful funky yeast notes peak around in the aroma. Full lactic and bready cherries nose. Sharp and swiftly growing acidity in mouth comes out leafy when paired with the strong cherry flavours. Somehow, this funky yeast strain procures a plasticy and irony (metal) finish, but this is all happening in a most pleasant way. How nice is that? Creamy irony mouthfeel, very soft palate. Well hidden alcohol. Excellent!

Vintage April, 2004.

This one pours a cloudy amber shaded brown with a light tan head to compliment. Nose was oddly weak smelling, a bit fruity, but not very strong. The nose was decieving however as the taste was quite powerful. Notes of cider, grape and of course, the raspberry dominated. Reminded me of a sparkling cider though with raspberry flavoring. Alcohol level was decieving, can't taste the 8.5 in this one at all.

Overall another fine brew from Kuhnhenn, very nice indeed.

Slàinte!

Thanks to trbeer for delivering this one. Whoa, I had no idea this was a raspberry beer before smelling it. Let's review it for what it is. Pours a nice 2 finger head. Oops, I poured the sediment into my glass. Rust colored with orange hints that is very cloudy with bits of sediment tumbling about. Smells sweet and raspberry with perhaps a sour tinge. Tastes sour raspberry first. Not an overpowering raspberry. After the raspberry, it's kinda empty. Perhaps some citrus hints. Near the end, the raspberry comes back with a woody or seedy taste. This odd taste sits in the middle of my tongue and persists into the aftertaste. The beer is dry with medium body and heavy carbonation that lends a noticable sour. Altogether, it needs more in the middle to complement the raspberry and bring all the other flavors together.

April 2004 vintage, nice labeling.
Pours a pinkish brown. Very fizzy, with a two to three fingered head. Smells like raspberry.

Flavor was very interesting. My wife said it best, "Is this a flavored champagne?" Cotton candy backbone is riden by a fruity/flowery wondrousness. I didn't know what I was getting into.
Finished quickly and crisply with very little aftertaste. Wouldn't knock someone over for another, but would definitely drink it again.

Yet again, mad props to CRJMellor for an excellent BIF offering...
Left a third for a second day of drinking and let it warm more. Bad idea, the flowers take over. Enjoy the tasty brew in one sitting.

22oz bottle obtained via trade with CRJMellor. Thanks for the opportunity...

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 1 3/4" of frothy tan head over the coppery amber brew. Head is long-lasting, due to continuing bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass, leaving heavy lacing everywhere. Aroma is upfront and center of raspberries, leaving little room for much else, which is just fine for me. Taste is initially somewhat sour berries, which fades into a much more full and pleasing fruit flavor. Enough malt character to make you know that this is a beer, not some malternative, which is great. Mouthfeel and drinkability are both good, for a fruit beer, which isn't always my favroite style. But this one pulls it off. Looking forward to more Kuhnhenns in the future, and you should too.

This poured out a murky reddish amber with a tall bubbly light tan head. This collapses down to a rocky foam landscape that stick around but doesn’t leave much lace. The aroma was surprisingly fruity and tart that was somewhat reminiscent of a lambic. There were also some sweet malt undertones as well. Taste starts off fruity sweet and a bit tart. Notes of raspberries dominate this very fruity brew. There is also a good amount of biscuity malt in this. The taste ends on a raspberry sweet/tart note that shows a slight hint of alcohol. Body is about medium and very carbonated, almost too much so. Drinkability is pretty good but this is something I couldn’t have too much of at one sitting. Overall a quite tasty fruity beer. Thanks to garthwaite for the interesting brew.

Wow. Yeah. This beer was oh so beautiful, and I must thank skyhand a million times for sending it our way. Thanks!

So onward to the review then. Devil's Horn was quite a beauty, when poured it foamed up really high, and quickly, so that I had to gulp a mouthful of the almost white fluffy foam to save it from overflowing. I don't usually do that but I couldn't resist it this time. So after that ordeal of foaming at the mouth, the rest of the head faded and became thin, and eventually only a ring lingered. The colour of the beer was very nice and warm- when held over, not up, to the light it looked like Hell might look, all hot and, well Devilish I guess. A deep glowing red fading to bright but cloudy orange, like fiery pits and caves. Very hot, almost sexy. The aroma of the beer was Fantastic! Really really great, my boyfriend's dad was laughing at me because I had my nose in the glass way too much. Raspberries slap you in the face up front, then they stray away just slightly, and lie upon a grassy meadow, under a clear pale blue sky.... Very fresh and clean, explosion of berries! Taste, oh so wonderful. Slighly sour raspberries, with a hint of tart cherries in the background. Also in the mix is a Belgian-y sour brown and slight yeasty goodness, mmm! Towards the finish there's definitely a grassy hop presence, it jumps around your mouth and then vanishes ever so quickly to reveal a dry grapey aftertaste. It's very outdoorsy, summery. Mouthfeel is superb! I guess because it's 8.5%, it made my tongue numb, but not the tastebuds thank god! It was a bubbly sweetartness that made my lips pucker just a teeny bit, and left me just wanting more and more of this Evil tempting brew. But alas, I had to drink it sooo slowly, for I am pretty damn sure I will never get to have this one again!

A pink-ish, lox/salmon coloured brew that is quite cloudy, with no apparant floaties. The aroma is quite intense with the juicy/fruit characteristics of fresh raspberries. The smell also consists of brown ale/oud bruin-like Belgian notes. A bit of oak, some funk, and a few strange aromas that whilst brett-like, are obviously not brett. Cotton candy, gum, and other candy-sweet like fruit flavors are also present. Quite the complex aroma, on this "not normal" FFF-like fruit beer concoction. Taste is a lovely blend of fresh Raspberries, oak-like hints, and a Belgian oud bruin like lactic kick of sourness and acidity. I like it. Medium bodied mouthfeel that is creamy, smooth, and biting all in one sip. Drinkability remains high for this unique offering from an artisinal brewery that does not bottle enough product. I also resent the fact that Kuhnhenn is too freakin far from my house. A huge thanks goes out to Skyhand for giving us the rare oppurtunity to sample such a rustic gem of a beer. I owe you one Kim.

Another wonderful offering from the men in Warren, Michigan.

This one pours out to a bronze color in the glass with a decent head. The aroma is that of fruit, with cherries, berries and the whole fruit produce section coming to mind. The taste is excellent, with said fruit coming to the forefront giving off both a sweetness and a tartness at the same time with neither overpowering, yet complimenting the other. A treat, mouthfeel-wise, as you feel like you are drinking beer, eating fruit and having a "moment' all at the same time.

Well done.

Pours a drak amber with some orange and candy apple red straks. Big, fluffy, light tan headwhcih only leaves small remnants of lace.
Aroma of cherries, orange peel, light candy sugar and some yeast tones.
Flavor of cherries, orange, candy sugar, pale malt, grain and some light coriander.
Mouthfeel is full and tart and somewhat sweet. Light bit of spice cuts the sweetness a bit but this beer is all about sweet malt. Reminds me somewhat of Mad elf.
Drinkability is very good for a sweet beer. Very thirst quenching and goes down nicely.
