Pours a hazy brown with a little ring of a head. Aroma is big and sweet, like a malty maple syrup.
Taste is robust. Lots of caramelized malt, maybe even flavors of roasted meat (duck?). Sweet butterscotch, cream butter, maple syrup, light indistinct hop bitterness. A hint of smoke, maybe cigarette ash, peat, fruity like a merlot, more maple syrup again. No flavors of alcohol, but you can feel the heat if you hold it on the palate.
Mouthfeel is heavy like a barleywine but smooth like a scotch. Shares a lot of elements with a nice aged scotch, especially when warmed slightly. Dances around both the barleywine and fine Scottish ale styles. I agree with the others, a bold and tremendous flavor profile that, strangely, hurts its drinkability (too intense?). But me likey, and it would be great to age.
Label says bottled on 08-01-04, 11% ABV.

Huge thanks to RocPorterFanatic for this brew.
A: Very dark brown in color, slightly hazy, and a quaint tan head on the top.
S: Intense malt, and a good amount of sweetness. Molasses, caramel, brown sugar and perhaps a hint of dark chocolate or licorice.
T: Sweet, with brown sugar, caramel, and dark fruits. There is a hint of bread, as well as an almost orange zest like flavor in the finish, you can't taste the alcohol as much as you can feel it. Very nice.
M: Medium heavy, carbonation is low, and there is a stickiness to it, that I think works in the finish. If anything it feels slightly lighter than I would have thought.
O: Overall a hell of a malt bomb to round out your day with. Delicious, smooth, and dangerous.
